This duration of this internship will be based out of the Healthcare Technology Management department in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The HTM student intern will work with the HTM technicians to gain general experience repairing and troubleshooting medical equipment between the biomedical, imaging, and laboratory equipment modalities.
This internship is designed to assist students studying to be a HTM Technician learn the necessary technical skills for servicing medical equipment. Design of medical equipment is not part of this internship.
Position description
The primary purpose of the Internship is to provide an intern with relevant field experiences in their chosen field of study. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction, guidance and to assess performance. The intern is responsible for observing the functions and processes of the assigned work unit. In addition, the intern may be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience, to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. The intern will be responsible for completing all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo Clinic and the participating educational facility. The duration and timing of the internship will be arranged with the specific intern and educational facility.
Qualifications
The incumbent must be enrolled in an associates, bachelors, masters or graduate degree program from a college or university, or have electronics training in the United States Military. Typically, the internship would occur after the student has taken most of the courses required by the degree program. Where applicable - the degree program must require an internship as a graduation requirement (or offer as a credit option). Familiarization with medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology is helpful. Knowledge of computer operating systems, networking, and microprocessors is desirable.

Schedule details
The HTM student internship schedule is flexible to allow for coursework requirements to be met.
HTM student interns typically work in the department one or two days a week, M-F, 7:30am to 4pm, but additional days during the week may be allowed at the discretion of the HTM Unit Head. No weekend or afterhours work will be performed by the HTM student intern.
