Manager Network and Unified Communications (E5946) (Information Technology)
Job Summary The overall purpose of this position is to fully manage and enable the evolution of network and unified communications services. This includes planning, selecting, and implementing network and unified communications products and services in support of IEEE's organizational units' needs and objectives. This position also provides leadership and focus for the architecture, integration, development, and support of network and unified communication technologies. This position typically reports to a Director role and manages approximately 5 direct reports. The role is primarily operational with strategic input.
Key Responsibilities
Provides day-to-day proactive management of staff resources responsible for network infrastructure and services, messaging, video, and telephony services
Provides leadership for the network architecture, implementation, and ongoing development of electronic systems and services
Evaluates response time, utilization, and error data and provides traffic analyses, capacity planning, and network/system designs as required
Leads and facilitates the development of network strategies
Evaluates, plans, recommends, and implements voice, call center, and enterprise network (LAN/WAN/Cloud) systems and services
Formulates monitoring policies, procedures, maintenance, standards, performance metrics, and specifications relating to network system management
Maintains the security of the network infrastructure and ensures that established policies and processes are followed to reduce/mitigate security exposures
Develops, maintains, and enforces network and unified communications policies
Recommends and implements advanced network and unified communications solutions that are consistent with industry standards and best practices
Provides expert consultation to project teams with regard to the application and implementation of unified communications, network police,s and agreed architectures
Implements and manages a services platform providing Web and Audio conferencing services for IEEE Staff and volunteers
Provides guidance to the Global IEEE Infrastructure team, providing network and unified communications services to the India office
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field Req
Master's or other advanced degree Pref
Work Experience
4-7 years computer/technology related work in a leadership role and direct experience involving network and unified communications architectures, Internet communications protocols (TCP/IP), and monitoring strategies in large, distributed, high performance, business critical networked environment Req
7-10 years demonstrated hands on experience understanding and integrating existing systems and technology, and leveraging emerging technologies around enterprise voice and data networks (Preferably with Cisco and F5 product lines) Req
Experience with managing telecom infrastructure and VoIP network. Req
7-10 years of demonstrated experience in managing service providers and carriers to deliver a global enterprise network infrastructure. Req
Skills and Requirements
Knowledge of and implementation experience with network technologies and architectures
Knowledge of application development life cycle models and issues, especially pertaining to network and unified communications components
Knowledge of WAN/LAN/Internet network topologies, protocols, and architectures
Knowledge of telephony/voice networks
Knowledge of an enterprise computing environment and QoS
Knowledge of routers, switches, and layer 2-7 load balancers
Knowledge of network troubleshooting techniques.
Knowledge of distributed processing operations, procedures, and equipment
Knowledge of computers and software
Knowledge of virtualized computing and networking environments, including VMWare
Knowledge of Cloud Computing network services, including AWS
Knowledge of Windows Active Directory or LDAP a plus
Knowledge of Web Conferencing services, including audio conferencing services
Working knowledge of systems and network performance monitoring
Strong knowledge of network systems security best practices and technologies such as Firewalls and VPN
Ability to process information logically and solve problems
Ability to identify and define user enterprise network needs
Must possess excellent communication skills to clearly discuss all aspects of service delivery and expectations and be able to clearly convey ideas provide technical/project and support information to technology suppliers, industry experts and IEEE Staff
Ability to clearly articulate requirements, deliverables, assumptions and other information related to projects and formal project management
Ability to present project status and implementation of new technology to project teams and IT management
Ability to work with technical software, hardware, and network vendors in evaluating and implementing complex secure environments
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to contact and support internal IEEE customers utilizing IT technology, infrastructure, hardware, and network services as well as members, customers, and partners in providing technical services and support where necessary
Must possess good communications and writing skills that will assist with the delivery and presentation of information to peers, staff, groups and leaders in the organization
Must have and demonstrate strong project management skills
Must demonstrates professionalism in business dealings particularly and when challenged must be able to handle pressure, remain objective and be diplomatic
Must be able to coordinate teams to solve problems and be motivated/capable of managing the problem until resolved within accepted time tolerances
Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and must possess a self-directed work style
Capable of handling complex changes and support of these systems and while maintaining security in a real-time environment
