Inventory Manager (Finance)

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the Director, Drydockings and Major Maintenance.

Position Summary

The Inventory Manager is responsible for the management of corporate spares inventory for the ship assist business unit. This position will be based in Norfolk, VA, and will play a critical role in transforming and maintaining an efficient, organized, and effective inventory management system. The ideal candidate will have a passion for organization, a desire to improve processes, and the ability to work effectively with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:

Inventory Organization and Management

  • Develop and implement a structured layout for new and existing warehouses, including the strategic placement of pallet racking, shelving, and storage zones.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive inventory tracking system to monitor stock levels, track item movements, and manage reorder points.
  • Label and categorize all storage locations, ensuring easy identification and retrieval of inventory items.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits to ensure accuracy and reliability of inventory records.

Project Management

  • Lead the setup and organization of both the new and existing warehouse facilities, including the procurement and installation of pallet racking and other necessary equipment.
  • Coordinate the transition of inventory from existing storage locations to the new facility, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all inventory-related activities, including receiving, storing, picking, packing, and shipping.

Process Improvement

  • Continuously evaluate and improve inventory management processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and support the operational needs of the Ship Assist Business Unit within Moran Towing.
  • Implement best practices for inventory management and stay informed of industry trends and innovations.

Stakeholder and Supplier Collaboration

  • Work closely within the Engineering Department and other relevant departments to coordinate the timely procurement and delivery of necessary spare parts and materials.
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers and vendors to ensure the availability and quality of inventory.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for the installation and maintenance of warehouse equipment, such as pallet racking and forklifts.

Inventory Support for Operations

  • Ensure the proper spare parts are shipped to needed locations in a timely fashion, supporting ship assist operations and minimizing downtime.
  • Manage the entire process of receiving, put away, picking, packing, and arranging shipments of inventory items.
  • Provide ongoing support to the Business Unit by ensuring that critical inventory items are available as needed to minimize downtime during maintenance and repair operations.
  • Respond quickly to urgent requests for spare parts, ensuring the smooth operation of the fleet.

Facility Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the new warehouse, including managing utilities such as electricity, water, internet, and security as needed.
  • Ensure the warehouse meets safety and regulatory standards, addressing any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Develop SOPs for facility maintenance and manage relationships with suppliers for facility-related services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2-year college degree; however, relevant work experience will be considered with education.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid driver's license and Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Proven successful management experience and demonstrated strong leadership skills and decisive decision-making.
  • Ability to work effectively individually and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to take initiative, multi-task, interpret data, operate in stressful situations, and make quick decisions.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, initiative, and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office computer skills, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Coast Guard regulations and ABS rules applicable to towing vessels.
  • Management, supervisory or mechanical experience.
  • Engineering and/or operations experience in the maritime industry.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • Ability to: cross bulwarks; frequently walk, including on uneven surfaces; climb ladders and stairs; stoop; bend; stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; and use a keyboard and computer screen.
  • Ability to travel, including air travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Hours of work are typical business hours Monday through Friday, but the candidate must be available, if required, during off-hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

Moran Towing Corporation offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our target pay range for the Inventory Manager position is $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year. This pay range represents Moran's commitment to pay transparency and is a reasonable estimate of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate's exact location, experience, and expertise related to the qualifications.
