Scientist I (Pharmacology) (Finance)
Exelixis is seeking a highly self-motivated, interactive, and productive hands-on PhD scientist to join the Pharmacology team working towards discovery of anti-cancer agents for the treatment of targeted indications. The successful candidate will be a highly creative scientist with a strong desire to succeed at the highest level. This individual will have strong knowledge and experience in setting up tumor models in animals and incorporate the latest technologies into Pharmacology functions.
Position Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design, execute and interpret in vivo pharmacology experiments to test the selected compounds in rodent models of cancer.
• Optimize pre-clinical formulation; establish efficacy/PK/PD relationship; characterize Toxicity profile for the preclinical therapeutic candidates.
• Utilize literature and internal data sets to design and test hypotheses for drug targets.
• Provide scientific support for the project teams and Discovery/ Pharmacology staff.
• Prepare technical reports for research findings and IND filings.
• Collaborate with the IACUC committee to ensure compliance with internal policies and animal welfare regulations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
• PhD in Pharmacology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Cellular Biology or a closely related field with 0-3 years of industrial experience after post-doctoral trainings is required.
• A broad understanding of in vitro and in vivo Pharmacology, PK, PD concepts within the cancer biology field is essential.
• Experience using in vivo oncology models for drug discovery with proven tracking record in establishing, validating and implementing animal models for testing cancer therapies including xenograft, syngeneic, genetically engineered mouse (GEM), orthotopic and humanized models to study biologic mechanisms.
• Ability to adapt to fast-paced work environment and deadlines.
• Works independently; self-motivated and innovative.
• Ability to work in a team-based environment and coach junior scientists.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English.
• Proven track record of good experimental design, in-depth data analysis and interpretation based on strong scientific rationale.
• Detail oriented and able to problem solve and offer potential solutions.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• In vivo skills include, but not limited to animal handing, dosing with different routes (po, iv, sc, ip etc.), blood collection, tissue collection/ perfusion, necropsy, tumor measurement, clinical observation, rodent survival surgeries, and imaging modalities.
• Expertise in cell culture with aseptic technique is a must.
• Proficiency in laboratory bench skills such as Mesoscale, Luminex, qPCR, Flow cytometry, and/or histology is preferred; capability of running ELISAs, Western blots and HPLC is desired.
• Experience in pre-formulation for small molecular is a plus.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PDF, Graphpad prism is required. Capability of using Studylog, Freezerworks, ELN notebook and Biovia Insight is preferred.
• Good tracking record in notebook and report writing.
