Estimating Manager - Asheville, NC (Finance)

Position Overview

As an Estimating Manager at APAC Asheville, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves collaborating with various departments, analyzing project requirements, and ensuring that all estimates are completed on time and within budget. You will play a crucial role in helping APAC Asheville secure new projects and maintain its reputation for excellence in the construction industry

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work, which jobs to bid and required contents of estimate.
  • Prepares detailed estimates by completing takeoff, using past cost history, and conferring with field personnel.
  • Maintains files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Prepare detailed reports, information packets and clearly communicate all aspects of the bid to field personnel on bids that are awarded.
  • May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality of availability of materials.
  • Minimum supervision provided when estimating items in own discipline.
  • Independently estimates a large sized project.
  • Manage cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
  • Schedule the project in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, customers, contractors, or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters, such as work procedures, complaints, or construction problems
  • Plan, organize, or direct activities concerned with the construction or maintenance of project
  • Take actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction site
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Supports other department personnel as required.
  • Regular and timely attendance

Supervisor Duties

  • Assist with Interviewing and hiring process as necessary.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Willingness to develop subordinates' technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.
  • Appraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee evaluations.
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Lead by example.
  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • 7 to 10+ years construction estimating experience required.
  • Previous team management experience preferred.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training preferred.
  • Experience with HCSS, B2W, and APEX preferred

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Experience with estimating software
  • Demonstrate proficiency with estimating and bidding software.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and contracts.
  • Skills needed include leadership, problem solving, decision making and organization.
  • Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in dealing with management, team members, vendors and internal and external customers.

General Requirements

  • Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations
  • Hours are extended throughout the year to include nights and weekends when necessary
  • Travel may be required
