Job Description:
Woodruff & Howe Environmental Engineering, LLC (WHEE), and Inframark Company, has an immediate opening for a civil, environmental, agricultural engineer, with 5+ years of experience in evaluating, planning, and designing water, wastewater and stormwater projects. Familiarity with a broad range of issues related to wastewater treatment and environmental compliance is essential. The candidate will help lead the delivery of design drawings, specifications, technical reports, permit applications, etc., and engage directly with clients and internal team members.

Key Responsibilities:

Experience and duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Performance of various engineering duties including but not limited to: engineering plan and specification development; performance of engineering calculations; hydraulic system design work; performance of engineering evaluations; development of AutoCAD design drawings; modeling of wastewater treatment systems, etc.
  • Environmental (primarily water, wastewater, stormwater) regulatory compliance functions including permitting, development of environmental plans and programs (e.g., Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure [SPCC] Plan), including employee training programs, environmental regulatory compliance monitoring and reporting, performance of environmental compliance audits, review and interpretation of environmental laws, rules and regulations.
  • Visiting client sites for meetings, data collection, observation of existing treatment systems, environmental auditing, etc. to prepare environmental plans, engineering evaluations and other activities.
  • Development of proposals for potential projects.
  • Project Management
  • Other professional activities/duties as may be assigned

Qualifications - Required:

  • Degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or related field).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office.
  • Possess an EIT at a minimum and be working towards a PE. Having a PE is preferred.
  • Project engineering and design experience in civil and environmental engineering and an in-depth understanding of the engineering concepts associated with water/wastewater treatment.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform field work and travel to client sites.
  • Eagerness to learn new things.

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience with water/wastewater treatment system design and environmental regulatory compliance activities.
  • Strong knowledge of EPA and State environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations to stakeholders.
  • Experience with proposal writing and developing project scope, budget, and schedules.
  • Have experience in food and agricultural products processing and must be comfortable working with meat processing plants.

Working Conditions:

  • An Office setting
  • Occasional field work at client locations (clients located throughout the U.S., but concentrated in the southeastern U.S.).
  • May involve exposure to industrial settings, weather conditions, and physical activity (e.g., walking, climbing ladders).
