The Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting with technical office and construction site duties associated with the delivery of the construction plans and overall operations of the department.
Duties include but are not limited to: inspection and documentation of highway and bridge maintenance and construction projects, detailed measurements and computations, field surveys, and administrative and technical work related to the design, construction and maintenance of highways and bridges.
Assists with construction material testing and computations on a project site, prepares construction project documentation, records haul sheets, weekly diaries, construction status reports and other information as required. Makes detailed measurements and computations of project material quantities. Participates on survey crew performing construction surveying and project staking. Assists department maintenance staff with traffic control setup and flagging. Complies with safety rules and regulations. Performs other duties as required
Work Expectations & Conditions:
The essential duties of the job involve exposure to disagreeable outside weather and related conditions (e.g. cold, heat, dust, fumes, wet, steep terrain, woods, insects, etc.), performing duties in and around traffic or moving construction equipment, construction sites, woods and wetlands. Duties may include irregular or unpredicted overtime hours.
