Cost Accountant (Finance)



As a Cost Accountant with PPG you will be responsible for Oracle R12 cost accounting activities in support of the Circleville Resin manufacturing location and the ERU. Key responsibilities include product costing, month end close activities and preparation of the annual manufacturing budget. The goal of this position is to provide accurate and timely data related to product costs, manufacturing operations and relevant variances. Specific activities include:

  • Provides financial analysis to drive Plant Operations performance:
    • Responsible for the preparation and review of periodic financial statements detailing actual manufacturing costs and variances from planned performance.
    • Provides ad hoc analyses, upon request or as the situation demands, to enhance the financial understanding and, resultantly, decision making of Operations management.
  • Responsible for month end close activities related to production and manufacturing operations and preparation of internal management reporting.
  • Responsible for administration of the Magna Carta inventory policy and conducting monthly meetings with Technical and Production to discuss quality of inventory and required actions.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual manufacturing budgets, detailed by category & cost center for the determination of accurate product costs.
  • Completes the quarterly product recosts in support of accurate inventory valuation and business decisions focused on product profitability.
  • Preparation and completion of periodic LIFO reporting to Corporate Finance.
  • Responsible for leading and reconciliation of the annual physical inventory.
  • Preparation and completion of various year-end Corporate, or US Government, financial or manufacturing statistics schedules.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and adherence to all other job-specific financial policies and procedures to ensure a strong business control environment, where internal financial and operating controls comply with Corporate and Coatings & Resins policy.

  • An undergraduate degree in Finance or Accounting is required
  • Previous functional, or comparable, cost accounting experience and knowledge Required.
  • Must possess a comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and internal controls, and display strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills are also required.
  • Must be able to work without close supervision, while ensuring tasks are completed effectively, consistently, and within established deadlines.
