Mechanical Engineer (Finance)
The incumbent is responsible for the following:
- The coordination of project requirements with other University departments
- Reviewing contract documents submitted by the Professionals to ensure compliance with University standards, the Professional's Standards Manual and the User's needs
- Transmitting comments to the Professionals in a timely manner and ensuring that comments are introduced into the documents
- Preparing or supervising preparation of contract documents as required for bidding and construction of projects of limited scope
- Ensuring that documents comply with all applicable codes and regulations and with University standards
- Developing "Scope of Work" that accurately reflects the User's needs within University standards, establishes a preliminary budget and schedules and ensures that the funding for the project is approved
- Making recommendations for Professional selection and defining scope of Professional services
- Obtaining, reviewing, and processing Professional's contract
- Interacting with Professional and other constituencies as required to bring the project within schedule and budget
- Keeping track of fees and expenditures
- Reviewing applications for payment and approving only when they accurately reflect services provided to date
- Meeting with the project Users as required to ensure that the project meets their needs as well as University standards
- Ensuring that the User understands the project management process and agrees with the established budgets and schedules
- Obtaining approvals for Departmental budget expenditures before authorizing purchases
- Compliance with procedures established in the Project Management Manual and development of new procedures
This position requires a bachelor's degree and four plus years' experience working in an engineering office preferable on higher education projects. This is a project based role and the length of your assignment is dependent upon several factors including but not limited to project workload.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architectural Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited University is required. Four or more years of experience in design is required. Design experience in a higher education/campus environment is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment is required. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable building codes, construction standards, and design standards is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. PE and LEED accreditation preferred.
