The Director of Purchasing is responsible for considering all aspects of relationships with pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical suppliers, including price, quality, value, and the ability to respond quickly to changing supply requirements. This role will provide leadership in locating and maintaining the best sources of supply and materials and ensure that purchasing activities support quality, cost, inventory, and service level standards. The Director of Purchasing will be responsible for the continued development and management of the corporate inventory management information system.
Essential Duties:
Develops and maintains a distribution network between organizational locations
Oversees purchasing of goods, ensuring cost and quality standards are met
Establishes policies and procedures for identifying, evaluating, selecting, and negotiating with vendors
Manages vendor relationships and works with vendors to resolve any quality, shipping, or invoicing issues
Ensure purchasing department is adequately staffed, and necessary tools and inventory on site to meet demand
Assesses departmental performance, identifying weaknesses or risk, and suggesting operational changes to ensure the efficient flow of goods
Works closely with Accounting Program department regarding PO's for reimbursement product from fulfillment partners and their 3rd party vendors
Ensures that materials are procured in an efficient, timely, and cost-effective manner, without disruption to operations. Implementing consistent process disciplines which leverage all available technology and talent
Administers cost reduction methods via increased supplier base, development of source directives, and centralized Vetsource purchasing
Negotiates discounts, terms, and conditions with vendors to maximize savings. Approves suppliers, contracts and agreements within authority level
Develops plans and procedures to carry out purchasing, inventory and materials management functions in accordance with Vetsource policies and uniform commercial practices
Develops trends and forecasts that can be used for operational purchasing decisions
Ensures inventory management practices are consistent with all accounting standards. Tailors inventory purchasing to support inventory needs to achieve maximum financials and operational performance
Performs all duties with the highest standard of business ethics and professional practices
Works with management to develop and implement new procedures to streamline processes and identify inventory discrepancies, including Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP)
Develops and maintains department metrics that align with organizational objectives
Provides budgetary input based on executed results and projected initiatives
Supports supplier relationships through inventory planning, documentation, and execution
Develops long-term company wide demand planning, ordering, and procurement strategies
Other special projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Leads programs to enhance the development and engagement of management staff and direct associates.

Provide staff with feedback regarding performance metrics to include correction action if necessary
Education/Experience:
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive purchasing experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical materials distribution environment and/or commercial pharmaceutical products industry
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in a leadership/managerial capacity
Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business or comparable discipline; or equivalent related work experience
Excellent computer skills are required; experience using email, instant message, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, ERP systems, as well as the ability to learn how to navigate unfamiliar systems or programs quickly
Preferred Qualifications:
Voracious appetite for growth and improvement
Veterinary experience a plus
