Viome is a wellness as a service company that applies artificial intelligence and machine learning to biological data – e.g., microbiome, transcriptome and metabolome data – to provide personalized recommendations for healthy living. We are a small, interdisciplinary and passionate team of experts in biochemistry, microbiology, medicine, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
We are seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer to work closely with the bioinformatic scientists to to bring proof of concept tools into production. This role will also play a critical role in driving innovation through the development of scalable bioinformatic workflow processes at Viome. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with Amazon's AWS orchestration ecosystem, developing & deploying bioinformatics tools for genomic data analysis, and running NGS workflows in a CLIA regulated environment.
This is a full-time role at Viome's offices in San Diego, CA.
Responsibilities:
Oversee existing workflows in a CLIA regulated environment
Design Big Data bioinformatics solutions that fit within the enterprise's technology strategy, including recommending frameworks, tools and identifying relevant source data
Work cross-functionally with bioinformatics scientists and software engineers to develop and optimize bioinformatic sample workflows
Collaborate with scientists and software engineers to develop test strategies, test infrastructure
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current data related technologies
Follow software development best practices and principles that adhere to compliance regulations
Qualifications:
PhD or MS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field
4+ years of development and implementation experience in a bioinformatic production environment
Advanced knowledge of Amazon's AWS ecosystem (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda)
Expertise working with container systems
GNU/Linux or other Unix-like operating system experience
Proven programming and advanced scripting ability
Prior use of git for version control
Proficiency in Postgres (desired) or other relational SQL data base and database administration
Must have excellent verbal and written and communication skills
