Responsible for independent implementation of protocols, test scripts, documentation, process audits and test methodologies that ensure stringent testing of assigned reagents to achieve a quality reagent product. Requires strict documentation procedures, and good laboratory skills. Will be required to compile and legibly document results in the form of a work instruction or report. Requires strong interpersonal and technical skills to work effectively and efficiently with other departments to resolve problems and to achieve a quality reagent product that results in customer satisfaction. The QC Specialist I position requires experience in analytical methods used to test chemical material or biologics.
Professional Qualifications
Education
BS/BA with minimum of 1 year laboratory experience in life sciences, molecular biology, chemistry, or a related field; or AA with minimum of 5 years laboratory experience in life sciences, molecular biology, chemistry, or a related field.
Experience
Experience to include at least 1 years or 5 years of lab experience post degree (BS/BA or AA respectively) in a life sciences, chemistry or molecular biology lab environment.
Experience with protein detection methodology including westerns blots and dot blots.
Familiar with other molecular biology lab techniques, including gel electrophoresis analysis.
Experience in the basic aspects of organic chemistry and analytical chemistry, and the use of common lab equipment and instrumentation.
Laboratory experience desired with working knowledge of the theory and practice of analytical chemistry.
Experience with Windows operating environment and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Adept at laboratory mathematical operations.
Familiarity with reagent QC systems and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to construct and follow QC protocols.

Position Responsibilities
Specific
Conduct analysis and testing of incoming reagents, reagent products, and reagent intermediates.
Use chromatographic techniques for analysis.
Use instrumental techniques for characterization of products. Collect and maintain documentation of experimental results and analytical data.
Use various lab instruments and equipment, including: thermocyclers, micropipettors, centrifuges, pH meter, conductivity meter, HPLC, UV/Vis spectrophotometers, and LI-COR Odyssey Imaging System.
Understands proper membrane handling techniques.
Independently prepare and analyze dot blots efficiently and accurately.
Prepare slab gels and use proper techniques for analyzing these gels.
Report results to the Supervisor or designee and discuss reagent quality. This would include further analysis needed on any specific reagent, and/or general observations during analysis that may influence the quality of the product.
General
