Engineer I (II) (Architecture)



Flexible Work Arrangements: Hybrid

An Engineer in Advanced Analytics is responsible for providing qualitative and quantitative analytical capabilities to assure the reliable, economic, and coordinated operation of the PJM Interconnection in accordance with PJM Operating Principles and Standards and applicable Regional and NERC Operating Policies.

Essential Functions:

  • Primary responsibility – Support special studies and operations research efforts: 1) Conduct large scale market simulations using production cost software such as PLEXOS/PROMOD/PROBE/etc., 2) Formulate and execute optimization problems utilizing optimization engines such as CPLEX/GUROBI/etc., 3) Develop mathematical/econometric/ML models utilizing Python/SAS/etc., to solve challenging industry problems.

  • Secondary responsibility – Work with Market Operations staff, industry colleagues in other ISOs/RTOs and software vendors to enhance mathematical modeling in market clearing engines. This responsibility includes both improving on existing formulations and supporting the design of new ones for future markets.

  • Other responsibility - Support writing papers for PJM, develop materials for PJM Board and stakeholder process presentations, present results at external meetings and conferences and other miscellaneous tasks.

Characteristics & Qualifications:

Required:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering with focus in Power Systems Engineering or equivalent work experience

  • At least 0-5 years of experience experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis

  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail

  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis

  • Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory

  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support

  • 0-5 years of experience with Energy industry; knowledge in PJM operations, markets, and planning functions would be ideal using statistical tools such as SAS using production cost tools such as PLEXOS, PROBE formulating optimization problems in publishing paper


Preferred:

  • MS degree in Engineering or PhD. in Engineering

  • Adept in strategic/forward thinking Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions

  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions

  • Experience using PSS/e (power system analysis program)
