SLAC
Staff Electronics Engineer (Biotech)
The Advanced Electronics Systems department of the Technology Innovation directorate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a talented Electronics Engineer to contribute to development of state of the art silicon detectors for use at a variety of experiments and facilities such as Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), and Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS). As Electronics Engineer, you will be part of the Advanced Electronics Systems department. Members of this department provide end-to-end electrical and software solutions for the laboratory and external sponsors that encompass unique science and engineering challenges. The department also hosts world-class competence spanning concept, design, testing and operation and maintenance of high-speed data acquisition and electrical control systems for research instrumentation.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of scientific and engineering staff and contribute to and participate in designing high speed cameras for next generation X-ray light sources focusing on tens to hundreds of kHz rate cameras for LCLS-II, vastly advancing state-of-the-art of the current 120 Hz cameras in operation. You will also develop solutions to challenges in the areas of sensors, ASICs, analog and high-speed digital electronics boards, high-speed signal transmission, fast data-acquisition and processing, and mechanical packaging and cooling. Position reports to the Advanced Electronics Systems Department Head.
Specific Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):
The activities may be performed either in the lab or in the clean-rooms and installation halls at SLAC. The applicant is expected to be able to isolate trouble to a given circuit or function (e.g., the regulator circuit in a power supply or the feedback circuit in a pre-amp of an audio amplifier) in a reasonable period.
