Project Manager - Packaging Machinery (Engineering)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 Axon is seeking a Project Manager that is responsible for the complete and seamless transition of customer orders from Axon sales team through the customer's receipt of order. Through the utilization of BaseCamp and other communication mediums, the Project Manager will build rapport and establish lasting partnerships with customers. Additionally, the Project Manager will serve as the liaison between the customer and Axon's Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales teams, to ensure complete and accurate understanding of customer needs and expectations, all the while maintaining open lines of communication and ensuring on-time delivery of projects. The Project Manager will work with various departments within the company to provide the customer with accurate project timelines, pictures, videos, and coordinate the facilitation of Factory Acceptance Testing. The Project Manager reports to the VP / General Manager. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate with internal resources and customers to ensure that assigned projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Act as the primary Point-of-Contact for the customer from acceptance of the purchase order through acceptance of the project at their facility.
  • Initiate, schedule and conduct formal Project Kickoff and Specification Review Meeting(s) as soon as practical after receipt of the purchase order. The participants will include the assigned mechanical and electrical designers, manufacturing and engineering supervision, and applicable sales personnel. Develop the meeting agenda which will include a complete review of all specifications to include identifying those areas requiring special attention.
  • Review specifications supplied by the customer and confirm that these were the specifications received by the Company at the time of order entry.
  • Perform risk assessment to minimize project risks.
  • Establish major project dates (the completion date of various task elements), identify critical path items, insure all assigned employees to the project are aware of their functional task(s) obligations, track progress toward those established dates, assist in rescheduling when obstacles or changes arise, and coordinate timely communications to all involved.
  • Communicate – both internally and externally to make certain that the company is aware of the customer's expectations, and that the customer is kept informed of our intended deliverable.
  • Monitor project cost progress continually and compare to estimated costs to assure these costs are within plan.
  • Act as the focal point (both internal & external parties) for any changes or developing issues affecting the successful conclusion of the project/order, including immediate response to specification changes received after acceptance of the order; keeping all parties informed regarding changes to the schedule and/or deliverables; coordination of associated cost of change(s), and initiation of correspondence with customer regarding any additional charges (costs).
  • Interface and act as a technical resource with internal company departments e.g. manufacturing, accounting, human resources, parts, purchasing, engineering, etc., to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Utilize on-line tools to monitor and track progress, and prepare various reports as necessary (e.g. spreadsheets, time table action plans, etc.) detailing project progress.
  • Use and continually develop leadership skills.
  • Attend conferences and training as required to maintain/increase proficiency.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors' degree in engineering preferred or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in Project Management. Prefer experience in project leadership in private industry (new machine manufacturing) business.   Packaging industry experience a plus
  • PMP Certification preferred
  • Experience with process improvement / Value Stream Mapping
  • Analytical skills to synthesize complex and diverse information
  • Problem Solving skills to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, including gathering and analyzing information, developing alternative solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills to manage departmental goals toward successful project completion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Self-motivated, demonstrated sense of urgency
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word/Excel/PowerPoint/MS Project, or similar
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and able to handle multiple priorities, including covering for other project management team members when unavailable
