Buyer I (Finance)



Overview

Location: Onsite 5 days per week at our Ready Mix facility in Richmond, TX

Reports To: Purchasing Manager

Pay is dependent upon experience and will be discussed during the consideration process

The Buyer I is responsible for executing company-wide procurement strategies with a strong focus on category management, spend control, supplier performance, and cost reduction initiatives. This role plays a critical part in the end-to-end purchasing process, supplier engagement, and continuous improvement efforts across the organization.

Responsibilities

Procurement Execution & Order Management

  • Manage all stages of the purchase order (PO) process, including requisition review, GL coding, tax classification, supplier sourcing, PO creation, confirmation, delivery, and follow-up.
  • Ensure all POs meet requestor needs in terms of quantity, lead time, quality, and pricing.
  • Regularly review open orders to determine the need for expediting, cancellations, or closures.

Supplier & Cost Management

  • Drive compliance with preferred supplier programs, contractual terms, and purchasing standards
  • Lead or support cost-saving initiatives and supplier improvement projects.
  • Identify and evaluate new supply sources to support competitive sourcing strategies for Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) goods and services and raw materials.
  • Participate in supplier selection, onboarding, and performance reviews.
  • Issue or manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to understand evolving business needs.
  • Act as a key liaison between procurement, accounting/finance, operations, and other departments to resolve discrepancies and ensure alignment across teams.
  • Collaborate with inspection and quality teams to address issues with defective or non-compliant goods or services.

Data Analysis & Compliance

  • Use quantitative skills to analyze data for problem-solving, trend identification, and decision-making support.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls related to purchasing activities, including approvals and documentation.
  • Support audits and reporting activities as required.

Additional Duties

  • Write and manage bid invitations; review and evaluate vendor submissions.
  • May work flexible shifts or schedules based on business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of procurement experience in manufacturing, operations, or construction environments.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong service-oriented mindset.
  • High standards of professionalism, reliability, and initiative.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Experience with SAP, Coupa, JDE or other ERP systems is preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel may be required up to 10%.
  • Ability to work varied shifts as needed.
