Director, Market Insights and Research (Hybrid) San Diego, CA (Finance)



Position Overview

We are seeking a strategic, customer focused, and insights-driven Director of Market Insights & Research to lead our Global Market Insights function. This role is central to shaping Insulet's understanding of people living with diabetes, healthcare professionals, and market dynamics. You will guide a team responsible for delivering high-impact insights that inform business strategy, and product innovation opportunities across international markets. This role will work closely with the product research & insights team, as well as with Global Marketing Excellence, Commercial and Franchise marketing teams.

The ideal candidate will blend deep expertise in market research with fluency in data and analytics-capable of translating findings into compelling narratives and insights that influence decisions at the highest levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the GLOBAL Market Insights & Research Roadmap: Lead the design and execution of a global market insights strategy aligned with Insulet's strategic priorities-spanning patient, provider, and market perspectives. Develop market research roadmap based on feedback from Global Marketing Excellence, Commercial and Franchise Marketing and Product & Research insights team. Collect and organize all research from across the marketing organization. Be the resource for commercial and marketing-oriented research and insights.
  • Design & Deliver Research That Drives Action: Lead high-quality primary research to answer core business questions including HCP segmentation, consumer demand drivers, prescribing behavior, KOL insights, and total addressable market (TAM) estimation and ensure research results and findings get communicated and adopted across the organization.
  • Responsible for creating CoE (Center of Excellence) that serves as providing foundational level insights as well as strategic recommendations for the business
  • Uncover Market trends and insights: Synthesize behavioral, attitudinal, and usage data to inform strategic choices for key stakeholders including HCPs and Consumers.
  • Shape Strategic Decisions: Deliver insights that influence product positioning, go-to-market strategy, messaging and positioning, and adoption. Partner closely with User Research as well as Product, Marketing, Global Marketing Excellence, R&D, Clinical, Medical Affairs, and Customer Experience teams.
  • Lead with Data: Blend traditional market research with advanced analytics inputs (e.g., usage data, behavioral modeling) to elevate insight depth and relevance.
  • Drive Competitive and Market Intelligence: Monitor the evolving competitive landscape, emerging technologies, and macro trends in diabetes care and digital health.
  • Work effectively with the senior leadership team to gain alignment and adoption of market research results
  • Enable a Culture of Curiosity and Impact: Build a high-performing team, foster a learning mindset, and advocate for insight-driven thinking across the organization.
  • Vendor and Budget Oversight: Manage external partners and research vendors to ensure cost-effective, timely, and compliant execution.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Market Research, Psychology, Public Health, Business, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience uncovering actionable market insights that lead to impactful business decisions with a focus on market research, or strategic planning. Experience in healthcare, Medtech, or life sciences is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to design and lead end-to-end research programs that inform high-level strategic decisions.
  • Deep expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including segmentation, conjoint/discrete choice, journey mapping, and brand tracking.
  • Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research, data integration, triangulation, and storytelling-comfortable drawing insights from a variety of sources, including analytics dashboards, syndicated data, and user research.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence across levels and functions, prior people management experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication and data storytelling skills, with the ability to distill complex findings into compelling, actionable insights.
  • Passion for improving the lives of people with chronic conditions, especially in the diabetes care field.
  • Experience in diabetes care, medical devices, or digital health.

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools or platforms (e.g., Tableau, R, SPSS, SQL) is a plus.
  • Understanding of healthcare compliance, IRB, or regulatory considerations in research.

Additional Information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $185,775.00 - $278,662.50. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
