Benefits Associate (Finance)

We are currently recruiting for a Benefits Associate to join our New York Region. Segal is a flexible hybrid organization.

The Opportunity: The candidate will enjoy client interaction, work collaboratively with a diverse audience of colleagues and clients, and has the ability and interest to travel as needed, meeting with clients and prospects.  They will also enjoy learning about creative, innovative and strategic opportunities to ultimately help guide clients and colleagues around the issues and emerging developments in the employee health benefits and retirement benefits industries.

The Role: Working with our Compliance, Health, and Retirement practices, the Benefits Associate will collaborate with Senior Benefits Consultants and all staff on all aspects of client servicing including client management, project management, and new business development.  You will have the secondary relationship accountability for assigned or procured clients, overall servicing responsibility, and client satisfaction. In addition to maintaining positive client relationships, you will collaborate with others across Segal to achieve technical knowledge of our service offerings and proactively provide clients with a full array of our consulting services.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing own technical expertise on client project teams with emphasis on plan design, modeling, pricing and other financial aspects of group benefit plans.
  • Attending client meetings as requested to provide technical expertise and support.
  • Supporting the delivery of health and/or retirement services to include:
       -  pricing benefit plans,
       -  analysis of claims experience and existing plan design features,
       -  analysis of reporting and the feasibility of various funding alternatives,
       -  review and analysis of plan design alternatives and cost projections for benefits
           improvements and/or reductions,
       -  development of comprehensive annual reports for clients consisting of recent,
           past and projected future plan experience, income, expenses and performance of
           vendors,
       -  analysis of the likely effects of existing or pending legislation or regulations
           pertaining to group benefit plans,
       -  evaluation of the effectiveness of managed care networks
  • Researching and gathering information.
  • Reviewing and analyzing work products including plan data and financial statements.
  • Providing input to the development of solutions.
  • Creating and updating valuation programs and spreadsheet applications.
  • Assisting with report preparation and government filings.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in consulting or client benefits preferred,
  • Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal/written) skills,
  • Has regular client contact on routine and complex matters and has the ability to step immediately into client relationships, 
  • Business acumen,
  • Demonstrated success as a relationship builder/collaborator,
  • Proven learning agility and flexibility,
  • Skill in developing ways to communicate information into actionable terms that clients will grasp and be able to act upon,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse audience of colleagues and clients, and
  • Ability and interest to travel as needed to meet with clients and prospects.

The current salary range for this position is $62,500 to $75,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
