Supervisor, Payroll (Finance)

Job Summary

The Payroll Supervisor will manage a small team of payroll professionals and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The Payroll Supervisor will also be responsible for quarterly tax filings, payroll reconciliations, and will work closely with the HRIS team to maintain data integrity. This role will serve as a key liaison between Payroll, HR, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure payroll operations support organizational goals and timelines.

This role will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work up to two (2) days a week remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day payroll operations, including multi-state and international payroll processing for retirees as well as salaried and hourly employees.
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Oversee and execute quarterly payroll tax filings, W-2 reconciliations, and other related payroll tax activities.
  • Conduct payroll reconciliations and audits to ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll transactions.
  • Partner closely with HRIS and IT teams to ensure accuracy of employee data, system configuration, and workflow integration.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including HR, Finance, and Legal to support compensation, compliance, and reporting initiatives.
  • Drive process improvements and best practices in payroll operations.
  • Respond to and resolve complex payroll inquiries and issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Stay updated on payroll laws, tax changes, and compliance requirements across all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Provide day-to-day payroll support including answering general employee payroll/time related questions and addressing pay and timecard issues on a timely basis.
  • Test new configurations and upgrades to system as required.
  • Prepare/review documentation for payroll processes.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 19 years' experience in processing payroll with 5 years' experience in an advisor, supervisor or manager role
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
  • Detail-oriented with strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Human Resources
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in processing payroll with 3 years' experience in an advisor, supervisor or manager role
  • Prior experience with SAP HCM payroll system preferred
  • Experience in international payroll
