POSITION SUMMARY:
The Buyer works closely with the Materials, Procurement, Distribution Center and Accounting Teams and is responsible for maintaining solid communication and information flow through the supply chain. The Buyer will be responsible for analyzing demand requirements and placing/maintaining purchase orders to ensure adequate material flow into the Distribution Center.
The Buyer will be expected to lead and participate in projects to support our drive for improvement in supplier on time delivery, service level, inventory days on hand reduction, new product launches and cost reduction initiatives.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This position must develop and maintain excellent relationships with the supply base as well as the internal supply chain team and AP department.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain order confirmations from the supply base and maintain Purchase orders to ensure accurate available to promise dates.
Provides delivery date commitments on work in process and finished goods products to Materials Team and Customer Service.
Drive supply base performance improvement by supporting the development and implementation of strategies to improve supply base on time delivery, and reduce supplier lead times.
Reviews exception report from MRP system and adjusts as required.
Work with AP team and Suppliers to reconcile invoices and payments and manage for performance improvements.
Assist with cycle count reconciliations if needed.
Coordinate the information required to maintain Approved Supplier Data base
Work with Quality personnel to resolve supplier quality issues.
Resolve supplier quality issues to minimize the impact on operations; issue and resolve supplier corrective actions in accordance with policy and procedure.
Performs all tasks in accordance with Emerson's Business Conduct Guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
The following knowledge and experience is required:
1. Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain or equivalent required.
2. 3-5 years of purchasing experience in a high-paced manufacturing environment.
3. Demonstrated success in managing supplier relationships for performance improvement.
4. Solid computer skills and analytical abilities.
5. Project management and team leadership skills with the ability to develop strong support for change with all levels of internal and external organizations.
6. Self-driven, detail and results oriented, and motivated to work effectively without direct supervision.
7. Experience with materials planning and ordering systems and principles (SAP knowledge preferred).
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Normally assigned to an office environment; may occasionally be required to be in the factory environment. May be required to occasionally lift 25 to 50 pounds. Uses computer frequently; interfaces with the other employees and outside visitors by telephone, e-mail, and/or in person. Is required to wear safety glasses and safety shoes when on the factory floor.
