Research Assistant II - Anesthesiology (Finance)

Assist preclinical animal studies of cardiovascular, liver, and neurodegenerative disease. Under general direction of Dr. DeBerge, conducts activities to support research projects. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
U nder general direction by Dr. DeBerge, conducts research activities according to research protocol. Research activities include molecular analyses of neuroinflammation in experimental mouse models of neurodegeneration. Manages animal colony (e.g. breeding, genotyping) and experimental manipulation of mice (e.g. injections, diet administration, behavioral assays, echocardiography). Should have considerable experience in handling and experimentation with mice. Collect and perform molecular analyses on murine tissues and primary cells (e.g. quantitative PCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, enzyme-based metabolite measurements). Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to Dr. DeBerge. Maintains an up-to-date online laboratory notebook and research protocols. Assists in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, posters, papers, and grant proposals for presentation and publication. Maintains a clean work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment. Orders and maintains laboratory reagents and supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research projects. As needed, may coordinate research efforts within the lab and outside laboratories. Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
General knowledge and some detailed concepts of research field assigned.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
Minimum Experience:
One year of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment.
May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
