Analyst, Derivatives (Finance)
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Northern Trust is currently recruiting a Derivatives Analyst to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a 'best in class' operation at the heart of our business. We are particularly interested in candidates with previous experience in Derivative Operations although we are also keen to hear from candidates who believe they have a transferable skillset. Summary
Under direct supervision, the Analyst, Derivatives will be responsible for resolution of complex OTC Derivatives transactions, where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines and/or processes. This position will involve the processing of routine transactions for trade capture, confirmations, cash settlements as well as set up and maintenance of static data. The candidate must be analytically and procedurally competent, representing the team on cross-function processes or project deliverables. Emerging as an expert in a specific skill set through resolving exceptions to daily execution. Ensuring that derivative transactions including trades, settlements, and lifecycle management transactions are properly managed, posted and reported to clients on a daily basis.
Responsibilities:
1. Processes transactions related to trade capture, cash settlements, set up and maintenance of static data, and exception resolution.
2. Manages multiple client queries and issues, ensuring their timely resolution within established guidelines and escalating more complex problems to management.
2.Reconciles cash and security holdings.
3.Assists in the continuing technological advancement of the OTC team to support initiatives and improve processed where applicable.
4.Builds relationships with internal groups and third parties (fund accountants, custodians, brokers/counterparties).
5.Assists colleagues in maintaining business processes and providing second level verification of manually entered transactions.
6.Carries out relatively complex activities with significant financial, client, and/or internal business impact
Qualifications
- College or University degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, or related field
-Experience in Accounting, Finance or related field
-Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
-Functional / Industry Knowledge is preferred
-Analytical and problem solving skills are required
-Knowledge of capital markets and/or investment banking business is required
-Competencies in one or more of the following is preferred:
- Microsoft Office 365 (with emphasis on Excel: creating formulas and pivot tables),
- Bloomberg,
- IHS Markit applications (Markit Trade Manager, Markitwire)
Optional: VBA (able to understand macros), SQL (can write simple queries)
