Job Summary: The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the development of our most complex electro-mechanical products, driving innovation in rheometers and automation, integrating new technologies, and advancing manufacturing processes and supply chain solutions. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated passion for innovation, collaboration, and hands-on work with mechanical systems and has expertise in high-precision mechanical systems with a good understanding of thermal and electrical system principles. This role involves creating project plans, technical requirements, system and component designs, physical prototypes, testing plans, simulations, and technical reports.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Lead all technical aspects of complex electro-mechanical NPD projects using a stage-gate process.
Contribute to product and technology roadmaps and develop novel, patentable intellectual property.
Develop and validate specifications.
Verify designs to specifications, including creating and executing test plans and simulations.
Design and optimize systems, assemblies, and components using 3D CAD and simulation (SolidWorks).
Develop and use mathematical and statistical models to objectively investigate mechanical and thermal issues and to research new solutions.
Track and communicate progress against budget, schedule, and product cost targets.
Collaborate with suppliers, quality, and operations to support manufacturing.
Work with sales and product management to convert customer needs into product requirements.
Identify and lead continuous improvement opportunities.
Travel for supplier, customer, and testing activities.
Periodically direct and mentor engineering interns.
Experience and Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related field is required. M.S. degree preferred.
8+ years of relevant experience engineering electro-mechanical systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to proactively engage a diverse team across departments and a global service network
- Required Skills:
5+ years of demonstrated experience with electro-mechanical systems.
3D CAD modeling of components, assemblies, mechanisms. Ability to review models.
Competence with GD&T and ability to create a systematic tolerance stack up process.
3+ years of project management.
Ability to perform calculations for solid mechanics, thermal analysis, and bearing fits.
Proficiency with mathematical and statistical processes.
Excellent technical writing skills.
Ability to conduct and review mechanical and thermal FEA.
- Preferred Skills:
Understanding of kinematic mechanisms, motion control, and automation principles.
3D CAD in SolidWorks.
Understanding of design for EMC/EMI principles.
Knowledge of data acquisition and data logging.
