SUMMARY
The Software Project Manager is an experienced team member who works on a variety of internal and external software-related projects simultaneously. They practice project management methodologies and can adapt easily to different styles. They are comfortable working both with Customers and the Development Team and can effectively communicate both ways. In addition to normal project management activities, the Software Project Manager may also perform several functions at once depending on the needs of the team(s), such as:
• Process improvement and coaching
• Hiring and recruiting for the Development Team(s)
• Requirements gathering
• Customer relationship building
• Solutions architecture
• Quality assurance / testing
• Software development
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Participates in discovery sessions with customers to understand the problem and “t-shirt size” projects
• Assists in requirements gathering and documenting user stories with the Development Team
• Assists with prioritizing at both the project level and within projects to ensure a minimum viable product can be delivered first
• Works with the Customer and Development Team to define an appropriate scope and schedule for projects, with a strong preference toward agile approaches
• Supports the Customer / Product Owner by resolving questions and issues quickly, managing expectations, and assisting/owning communication with stakeholders
• Keeps communication channels open and ensures tight feedback loops between the Customer and Development Team
• Champions ongoing process improvement and project management techniques while realizing that every project is different
• Mentors and develops team members
• Assists with organizational planning, recruiting & hiring, budgets, presentations to management & customers, co-op program administration, statement of work preparation, high level communications to the business on project status, and other management functions
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
While the Software Project Manager may not have direct reports, they will play a key role in evaluating the performance of teams, organizational planning, hiring, budgets, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS

• Solid understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment
• Practical experience seeing both large and small software projects to completion
• Sufficient level of technical background to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate complex project risks and issues
• Experience creating compelling presentations for customers and management (e.g. via PowerPoint or Keynote)
BONUS SKILLS
• Business analyst skills
• User Experience (UX) design
• High level software development skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Must have at least one of the following:
o Degree
Bachelor's Degree or higher in a field related to project management
2+ years of practical work experience
o Extensive Experience
6+ years of practical work experience
