Senior Investment Associate (Finance)
As an Investment Associate, you will work with a team of senior portfolio managers (PMs) to consistently deliver a high level of proactive client service and support. You will need to understand and support the PM's daily workflow by staying abreast of financial markets and our investment offerings to communicate effectively with clients and internal partners, executing and monitoring trade activity, researching and resolving operational and investment issues, ensuring the accuracy of investment performance and coordinating the preparation of materials for client and prospect meetings including portfolio analytics and asset allocation. This position is critical to the confidence that our clients have in our abilities to manage their finances and the appropriate person will understand the importance of accuracy and timeliness.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
•Assist senior portfolio manager in managing and analyzing larger, more complex client relationships. Work with multiple family relationships. Strong organizational skills are essential to understand each family's particular circumstances.
•Coordinate preparation of portfolio analytics and asset allocation analysis and prepare materials for existing and prospective clients. Ensure investment performance and all other information is accurately and logically presented.
•Communicate on PM's behalf with clients and internal partners. Monitor PM's investment management activities in his absence. Read, understand and abide by portfolio manager guidelines.
•Monitor and take ownership of all compliance related duties and follow-up procedures, including consulting with PM's on deficiencies and communicating with clients to eliminate exceptions. Obtain written client approvals for investment objectives, trade confirmations, no investment-responsibility assets and any other account-related documentation.
•Participate in client meetings by ensuring our records are complete for compliance purposes, providing investment research and communicating with clients about recent investment decisions and current account activity.
•Communicate information on investment strategy changes, research recommendations and any other related information to PMs.
•Develop knowledge of investment strategies and solutions through contact with Northern Trust Asset Management and industry professionals, as well as through personal education and research.
•Work diligently toward mitigating losses due to error, and be mindful of possible contingencies.
•Work on special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
•Requires a broad understanding of financial markets. Knowledge of investment products, services, and financial principals.
•Candidates should have 2 or more years of experience in investment services in the financial services industry.
•Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics or equivalent relevant work experience is highly preferred.
•Analytical and organizational skills combined with an attention to detail are needed to meet deadlines and solve client or administrative problems.
•Excellent technical skills, including advanced Excel skills are required as well as PowerPoint.
•A passion for the investment business and excellent communication skills. Preference toward candidates pursuing an advanced degree, CFA or other professional designation.
