Medtronic's Brooklyn Park site is seeking a high-energy Sustaining Engineer II to support the high-volume manufacturing of perfusion systems-critical technologies that support life-saving therapies. In this role, you'll partner closely with Operations, Process Development, Quality, Reliability Engineering, and Regulatory Affairs to drive continuous improvement, process stability, and business continuity.

This is a high-impact role in a fast-paced environment where your engineering contributions directly support patient outcomes around the world.
As a Sustaining Engineer II, you will:

  • Provide day-to-day engineering support for high-volume production of perfusion systems.
  • Lead and/or support projects focused on improving process efficiencies, yield, and product performance.
  • Drive scrap reduction and cycle time improvements using Lean Manufacturing methodologies such as standard work, visual management, and waste elimination.
  • Specify and/or provide input for new capital equipment to improve efficiency, maintain continuity, and reduce costs.
  • Plan and execute process validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) and test method validations (TMV).
  • Apply DMAIC methodology and statistical tools (e.g., DOE, SPC, hypothesis testing, capability studies) to solve problems and optimize processes.
  • Create and maintain high-quality documentation (e.g., test plans, reports, qualifications, risk assessments, work instructions).
  • Own the performance of assigned production lines-accountable for uptime, quality, and yield.
  • Assist with the transfer of new or improved designs to production and support externally/internally sourced components.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to investigate and resolve issues related to customer returns, yield loss, or process variability.
  • Proactively implement and sustain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) within the production area.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience, or an advanced degree with 0 years of experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a medical device manufacturing environment, specifically within high-volume production.
  • Experience with automation troubleshooting and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and drive results in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting perfusion systems or other Class II/III medical devices.
  • Green Belt certification; formal DMAIC or Lean Six Sigma training.
  • Proficiency with statistical tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP, PowerBI).
  • Experience specifying or commissioning capital equipment for manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated success in cost-, cycle-time- and scrap-reduction initiatives.
  • Experience leading or participating in Lean initiatives such as Kaizen events or Value Stream Mapping.
  • Strong team and communication skills: accountability, perseverant, decision-making, conflict resolution, meeting management, and feedback.
  • Knowledge of materials and related manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and function both independently and within a team.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$78,400.00 - $117,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
