Wildlife and Farm Assistant (Biotech)



We are seeking a dynamic WILDLIFE & FARM ASSISTANT to join our team! This assistant will help maintain the Wildlife Management at Dogwood Canyon Nature Park. This individual will also ensure that the bison, elk, fish, deer, etc. are well maintained and provide safe encounters to enhance guests' experiences.

Essential Functions:

  • Animal Husbandry- Feeding grain, putting out hay, providing water, and ordering feed and supplies as necessary.
  • Observing animals for any issues and reporting any major issues immediately.
  • Pasture maintenance- Bush hogging, hay cutting, herbicide treatments, fertilizing, planting, mowing, and weed eating.
  • Vehicle inspection and maintenance- perform capable repairs onsite. 
  • Tree trimming- Controlling tree growth around buildings and fence lines. 
  • Facility maintenance- Make necessary repairs to buildings, doors, windows, etc.
  • Equipment maintenance- Such as chainsaws, tractor attachments, power tools, etc.
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations established in Dogwood Canyon standard operation procedure material.
  • Provide aide to activities and tour departments.
  • Assist guests with the highest level of professionalism.
  • Must be able to operate and be knowledgeable of all farm equipment.
  • Knowledgeable of pasture development, prescribed burns, and food plot management.
  • Experience and knowledge of purchasing feed and what types.
  • Stocking and feeding rainbow trout.
  • Assist with the care of animals in the nature center.
  • Assist stables department with equine management.
  • Must be highly service focused with a desire to engage with guests, with exceptional customer service.
  • Stay updated and adhere to all federal, state, and local wildlife mandates.
    • USDA, Arkansas Game & Fish, MO Dept of Conservation, etc.
  • Demonstrate initiative- ability to think, work, and make decisions to solve guest concerns based on sound judgement.
  • Monitor and track animal health and keep precise inventory of herds.
  • Must excel in a fast paced environment where continuous improvement is expected.
  • Must be able to consistently achieve high work standards; attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness is a must.
  • Ensure equipment, vehicles, and usage, items are stocked and clean.
  • Work with grounds and activities departments on various daily/weekly assignments.
  • Stay current on park and industry safety needs and certifications.
  • Continually be looking for ways to enhance guest animal experiences while ensuring safety. 
  • Knowledgeable of vehicle maintenance, safety/security equipment, etc.
  • Keep manager informed of ordering, equipment, and supply needs.
  • Must have flexible schedule to meet the demands of the park and its guests.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Two years of related experience or Wildlife Management Degree preferred. 
  • Missouri Class E or Arkansas P designated drivers license and safe driving record is required.
