Senior Accountant – Operations accounting (Government)

Our Senior Accountant will support all aspects of accounting and reporting processes, have end-to-end process ownership to support operations, finance, and other business partners, ensure compliance with the accounting under the US GAAP, and provide accounting guidance and often serve as first point of contact for finance and business partners to resolve issues. This role will partner and collaborate closely with IT, and Finance teams.

This is a unique opportunity for an accountant interested upgrading processes, being a part of system upgrade, creating best practices, driving efficiencies in the close process, integrating new businesses, and building lasting relationships with fellow employees from a Company rated the best employer, seven years in a row. This position will report to the Senior Manager, Operational Accounting. This position will be an integral and highly visible role within the Controllership and broader finance organization.

Responsibilities

You Will...

  • Assist in performing the Operational accounting function including accounts such as Materials and Supplies (M&S) accounting, Bonus accruals, and Advertisement accrual and analysis
  • Calculate and analyze reserve for aging M&S. Collaborate with procurement and accounts payable department to obtain and analyze data and report findings to the operations
  • Responsible for recording monthly and quarterly actual and statistical inventory
  • Researching and resolving questions/discrepancies for various departments
  • Assist with the month and quarter end closing of the general ledger, prepare month-end journal entries, evaluate account balances, and prepare analyses in conjunction with preparation of journal entries and balance reconciliations
  • Assist in the research and determination of how to account for new transactions, which may include review of contracts, research of technical literature and development of proposals for accounting treatment
  • Contribute to the achievement of the Company's timely and accurate reporting by assisting with process improvement initiatives and reporting knowledge, and department goals through the effective administration of the general ledger system
  • Assist in integration and U.S. GAAP accounting policy alignment for new acquisitions
  • Assist in the design and implementation of process improvements for ERP, including standardization, enhancements and potential automation of existing processes and systems, and other accounting applications
  • Work closely and directly with external and internal auditors in the execution of the audit and quarterly reviews
  • Build and maintain cross-functional and collaborative relationships with colleagues across Finance, Operations, Legal, Procurement, IT and others
  • Assist, as needed, in accounting and technology-related solutions
  • Work on Special Projects and tasks as assigned

What's Next:

Upon completion of the CPA, the Sr. Accountant role could have opportunities to move up or within the Accounting and/or Finance Organization or take on operational leadership roles within Orkin and or other Brands.

Qualifications

The Experience You Will Bring (Minimum Requirements):

  • Bachelor's degree or better in Accounting or related field
  • 4+ years of finance and accounting experience with a global public or large global private company
  • Public accounting experience (preferred)
  • Proficiency in ERP systems
  • Must have General Ledger management experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with software and systems implementations is a plus
  • Ability to function as a positive agent of change and of creating a positive, engaging work environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally and concisely. 
  • Must be able to work closely with leaders across all departments
  • Strong customer service skills, with a sense of urgency and commitment to problem solving
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to select, train, motivate, and retain key personnel
  • Intermediate to advances excel skills; Alteryx or Power BI experience is a plus

  • Must be local to the Atlanta metro area or willing to self-relocate to the area.
