Associate Director Planning (Marketing)



ABOUT THE ROLE:
Media Planners at Mindshare are part psychologists, part scientists, part artists, part entrepreneurs, and part politicians. We strategize how brands should communicate with people across the myriad of media channels, and how to do that differently from every other brand.

QUICK NOTES:

  • Oversight of Corporate Unilever Brand and select Unilever Foods brands: Hellmann's/Best Foods, Knorr
  • Strategic Associate Director over all paid media channels (linear TV, digital, social, print, audio)
    • Requires strong working knowledge of the entire paid media ecosystem with a thirst for innovation and outside-the-box thinking
  • Embraces collaboration across all disciplines, and has the type of personality that naturally brings the best out of different individuals and teams
  • Media Tools, Nielsen Media Impact, Telmar are a plus but not required; past CPG experience is a huge plus
  • Minimal travel – mainly to Englewood Cliffs, NJ (UL headquarters) and surrounding NY-area agency locations

    • Excellent & long term relationships with UL media clients – there is a great deal of trust and collaboration between UL clients & Mindshare strategy team. 
    • Focused WOW with clients that limits churn and promotes efficiencies within the team – In tandem with UL, the team has established ways of working that prioritizes the ability to bring excellence into flawless media planning & execution
    • Ability to work with wide variety of Mindshare specialty teams – Within Mindshare, we have an exemplary group of specialty teams including mobile, creative/production, agility in planning, etc., which has yielded award-winning work that pushes boundaries in driving our agency's Adaptive Marketing framework. With the wide variety of accounts and business needs on Unilever, there are countless opportunities to seek input from the brilliance of the specialty services we have within the agency.

Each brand's unique challenges, target audiences and competitors make this role one the most dynamic on the entire Unilever team.

HOW WE'LL GROW TOGETHER:

  • This is an ideal role to learn all aspects of Unilever's approach to media and marketing, allowing close collaboration with Brand Managers and Directors to acquire best-in-class knowledge from one of the world's most progressive marketers.
  • Mastering this role would enable the right individual to gain all the necessary knowledge and confidence to work across any of Unilever's categories beyond Foods (Deos, Hair, Skin, Homecare, Refreshments), ultimately allowing this individual to progress into the role of Director

 

YOUR IMPACT:

  • Runs the day-to-day strategy team (Manager, Sr. Associate, Associate)
    1. Responsible for strategic development, implementation and stewardship of all components of paid media activity for the Unilever Foods brands
    2. Determines final budget allocation by medium, informed by any research or insight driven by media planning and taking into account the channel contact plan / brief
    3. Ensures all deliverables are accurate and delivered on time
    4. Helps grow the team, inspiring them to up-skill and get to the next level to retain top talent
    5. Reports directly to the Director of Strategy over Foods
  • Brings together different Mindshare disciplines to bring the best thinking ideas that our company has to offer
    1. Serves as a key liaison among internal groups at Mindshare that contribute to the overall media plan development and implementation process
    2. Brings strong leadership to the interagency team, carving out a space for Mindshare to prove our strategic chops

 

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably with a concentration in advertising, marketing, business administration, and communications
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a Planning Manager, any Associate Director experience preferred, past CPG experience is a huge plus
  • Media Tools, Nielsen Media Impact, Telmar are a plus but not required
  • Embraces collaboration across all disciplines, and has the type of personality that naturally brings the best out of different individuals and teams
  • Exceptional organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities and detail oriented
  • Comfortable working with budgets and numbers
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
