Engineer/Scientist Aide (Information Technology)
Areté Associates, an employee-owned company, is a growing research and development firm recognized for contributing to national security objectives by supplying innovative solutions to challenging technical problems faced by the United States. We support the development of new detection capabilities that use a variety of remote sensing methodologies (EO/IR, Radar, Lidar, Chemical/Biological sensors, etc.).
We are seeking outstanding applicants for our Summer Scientist / Engineering Aide position in our Tucson, AZ office. The selected person(s) would work closely with full-time scientists/engineers for 12 weeks (exact start date and duration is negotiable based on the summer break schedule). The nature of the work is to provides assistance for a variety of programing tasks; provides integration and test support and applies knowledge obtained to solve routine problems.. Great Intern experience.
Primary responsibilities:
Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates basic technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and software design changes.
Produces routine engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
Uses personal computer for basic data analysis and data processing in Python and/or Matlab.
Maintains documentation associated with software design, algorithms, analysis approach, and results.
Keeps laboratory and surrounding areas clean and orderly.
Assists production flow by tracking purchase orders, costs and inventory and runs errands to obtain necessary parts.
Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
May conduct basic tests and record data, both with and without supervision, to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
Assists in indoor hardware testing and outdoor field experiments.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
AS/AA degree with 0+ years of experience; or Bachelor's Degree in Progress
Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
Collects anddocuments experimental data according to pre-established instructions
Performs analysis of collected data utilizing fundamental engineering or physical principals
Supports outdoor field tests of active and passive electro-optic sensors
Sensor software integration, which may include loading and modifying software or data on prototype sensor systems
Hardware integration support, which may include fabrication testing or installing of cables, or hardware components within sensor packages
Basic design and 3D printing of prototype components
Basic optical system calibration and test support
