The Major Gifts Senior Manager oversees a donor portfolio of high-profile supporters and is responsible for discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans that deepen donor engagement and bolster major gifts support for all of Habitat Charlotte Region programs. This position will work closely with team members, community advocates, and high-net worth donors to elevate the Habitat brand and presence across Habitat's GSA: Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Gaston counties.  

This position will require exceptional communications and marketing skills, a willingness to travel and engage community partners across the Charlotte Region, and a passion for Habitat's work. This position will work with team members to support other departmental responsibilities and any other development-related duties assigned by the Director of Development.

Essential Functions 

  • Manage Discovery processes that qualify and disqualify donors as Major Gift Prospects 

  • Cultivate a warm and inviting environment for donors to deepen their engagement and understanding of Habitat's work and overall impact on the community 

  • Solicit donors, asking them to stretch their financial giving to make major and planned gifts in Habitat's work  

 

  • Solicit donors, inviting them to engage in advocacy and community building to bolster support throughout the donors' personal and professional networks. 

 

  • Steward donors and gifts in a timely and appropriate manner, celebrating their philanthropic contributions and providing donors with outstanding investor experience 

 

  • Maintain a menu of engagement and investment opportunities for donors in portfolio 

  • Work with the Annual Fund team on effective moves-management strategies to increase individual giving  

  • Manage systems that track donor behavior, patterns of giving, and target ask in Salesforce, providing full transparency across forecast and action plans  

  • A collaborative team player who can work independently, with the discipline to manage a remote schedule and contribute effectively without a dedicated office space. 

  • Brings energy, creativity, and strategic thinking to inspire others and expand Habitat's reach through community engagement and local partnerships. 

  • Attends and supports all donor and volunteer events, especially those delegated by a Director of Development 

 

  • Supports the Director of Development to create and execute communication plans that keep donors connected and inspired by Habitat's work 

  •  Assists the Director of Development in establishing a community presence by participating in events and activities that build our contact list and visibility the community.

  •  Support and manage Generations Society communications and programming; derived primarily through newsletters, events, and targeted solicitation

  • Display, and maintain a willingness, to support team members when needed and perform other development-related duties as assigned by the Director of Development 

Required knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • 5 years of experience in donor relation management and major gift programs. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to ask for money and solicit donors directly (page 2) 

  • Ability to travel or drive long distances for Development related meetings and tasks 

  • Experience in event and project management in a professional environment 

  • Ability to work both on broad-based strategy and on specific detail 

  • Strong project management skills to facilitate the creation of strategies and action plans 

  • Enthusiasm for teamwork, accuracy, initiative, and critical thinking 

  • Commitment to constant improvement 

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills 

Work Environment: 

Requires working in the Charlotte home office; some Charlotte Region travel as needed with donor meetings and events. This position will need to be flexible to work some evenings and weekends - when needed and with proper notice - to support Development and affiliate-wide initiatives. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to work in an office environment as needed which requires ability to speak, hear, with the visual and manual dexterity to manage papers, reports, and typing 

  • Must embody the capacity to maintain the following for several hours at a time: use of personal computer or similar technology, phone, sitting as required

Estimated Time Commitment

40+/- hours/week. Monday-Friday schedule.
