Viome is a wellness as a service company that applies artificial intelligence and machine learning to biological data – e.g., microbiome, transcriptome and metabolome data – to provide personalized recommendations for healthy living. We are a small, interdisciplinary and passionate team of experts in biochemistry, microbiology, medicine, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist with deep expertise in computational analyses of the microbiome. Working in conjunction with the R&D team, you will assist in the analysis of meta-transcriptomics, meta-genomics, and multi-omics data sets, to build a world-class platform from which we will discover, validate and develop cutting-edge products.

This is a full-time role at Viome's offices in San Diego, CA.
Responsibilities:
Use computational analytical tools and strategies to analyze microbiome datasets
Provide intellectual and technical excellent to guide new discovery strategies
Design, perform, troubleshoot and interpret experiments
Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with biological and data science teams to implement new strategies and troubleshoot any unforeseen roadblocks
Clearly communicate bioinformatics strategies and data outputs to those not in the field such as internal stakeholders and consultants e.g. Legal, Regulatory and Manufacturing colleagues
Deliver high quality results with a strong emphasis on documentation, technical rigor, focus on detail and timely delivery
Qualifications:
PhD in Bioinformatics with at least 1 year of professional experience
Thorough knowledge of microbiology and microbiome literature and methodologies
Expertise in Python programming and data analysis with Python
Expertise in Linux and Shell programming
Familiarity with source code revision control such as git, svn or related systems
Experience with NGS with meta-transcriptomic and/or meta-genomics biological data analysis
Experience working with NGS data, common sequence file formats and bioinformatics tools (bwa/bowtie, samtools, bedtools).
Strong organizational and record keeping skills
High attention to detail and problem-solving
Excellent work ethic and willingness to work collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment are essential
Not required but nice-to-have:
Familiarity with and experience in the use of NCBI and other common gene, protein and pathway annotations sources and databases
Preferred experience working in a CLIA regulated environment
Expertise with Postgres SQL based databases
