The Boiler Engineering Manager is responsible for directing and managing the activities of the boiler performance engineers. This individual will conduct team functions such as training and development, implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, performance assessment, scheduling, and technical leadership. They are responsible for coordinating the activities of their engineering department to ensure all elements of product design and the technical aspects of customer and supplier liaison are completed in an efficient, timely, cost-effective, and high-quality manner.
Provide support for major proposals including customer specification reviews, exception and clarification responses, project technical strategy input, project guarantee strategy coordination, and resource allocation. Support may include negotiation of technical specification clarifications and contract guarantees with EPC's, Owner's Engineers, Owner's and B&W sub-suppliers. Some proposal presentation support may be required.
Develop man-hour estimates for proposals. Track workload and update contract backlog as necessary to reflect current and projected group workload. Coordinate with other engineering groups as required.
Review the overall performance requirements for every project and specific design methodology for individual projects as required. Interface with other B&W groups to determine best practices for improving processes and procedures.
Develop, update, and enforce adherence to the company's Engineering Standards. Oversee the calculation output of the group such as reports, guarantee packages, and key project deliverables as required, through close collaboration with technical specialists and other engineering departments.
Conduct employee coaching reviews, establish employee developmental goals consistent with group initiative planning, and determine employee progress in attaining those goals.
Interface with customers, suppliers and erectors to provide technical assistance as required.
Investigate significant technical problems that are common across projects and recommend appropriate corrective action.
Review department activities for adherence to project technical requirements, such as thermal, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, control systems, and vendor selection. Execute engineering design when the complexity of a project exceeds the technical capability of other engineers.
Continually strive to improve the overall operation of the department through identification and implementation of improved work systems and methods. Participate in product development, marketing, and purchasing, as required on all proposals and ongoing projects.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree
Minimum of 8 years proposal and/or contract experience or similar
Ability and desire to work in a collaborative environment
Proven experience offering creative solutions
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with projects related to the power/utility business
