LUTHERAN SPECIAL EDUCATION MINISTRIESPosition SummaryTITLE: Part-Time (60%) Special Education Teacher/Consultant at Springfield Lutheran High School, Springfield ILQUALIFICATIONS:Teaching certificate with certification/endorsement in special education.Bachelor’s degree.Shows initiative in professional growth experience and demonstrates an appreciation for ministry to children.Lutheran Church membership preferred.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the President/CEO may find appropriate and acceptable.REPORTS TO: Director, Programs & Services & Building PrincipalSUPERVISES: Volunteers/Teacher aidesJOB GOAL: To serve as a resource person for individualized instruction, supporting general education teachers within their classroom, consulting with parents and church workers, thereby enabling children with special learning needs to receive a Christian education.POSITION PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Structures all learning experiences that teach/lead students into a growing relationship with Christ and assists students to achieve their potential.Reviews and interprets educational data.Offers recommendations regarding the modification of instructional techniques, educational materials, curriculum, and alternative teaching approaches.Conducts classroom observations and evaluations (informal and formal).Confers with parents and educational personnel to: provide feedback; provide effective strategies; and coordinate student evaluation, referral, placement, scheduling, completing reports when appropriate.Develops Individualized Educational Plans for children.Develops written lesson plans, which are designed to meet IEP goals and objectives. (Consultants, less than 0.4, will keep a communication log.)Assumes responsibility for instructing children in curricular areas. (Applies only to resource room teachers 0.4 and above.)Assumes the responsibility for supervising children.Identifies community resources available to parents, teachers, and religious educators that address the needs of students.Serves as a presenter to professional and parent groups.Participates in partnership school activities when feasible while maintaining primary responsibility to LSEM.Administers appropriate Christian discipline to students in accordance with partnership school policies and proceduresAssumes other duties as assigned by the Director, Programs & Services.COMMON LSEM PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBLITIESPerforms all duties consistent with the common goals of LSEM in accordance with the policies adopted by the LSEM board of trustees.Serves in a public relations capacity by conveying information about LSEM to parents, various groups, and the public at large.Displays the ability to be an independent worker while maintaining appropriate work habits, appearance, and behavior that serve as a model.Develops and implements annual goals.Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development keeping current with the literature, new research findings, improved techniques, and by attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences.Demonstrates a Christ centered lifestyle.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten month Call or contract.
