Director - Commodities/Indirect Procurement (Government)

The Director – Commodities and Indirect Procurement leads the development and execution of procurement strategies and plays a key role in vendor development, supply, cost, and risk management for commodities and indirect procurement.  A successful Director will manage a strong and dynamic portfolio and will play a critical role in the company's ability to deliver safe, quality, and cost-effective products and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop sourcing strategies for each assigned commodity and indirect category that incorporates customer requirements, product requirements, market conditions, business risk, and supplier capabilities.
  • Lead the Commodity Risk Management process.
  • Collaborate and communicate with senior management and cross-functional teams to understand and align on business objectives, risk management, costing, and pricing actions.
  • Support sales and marketing with data to implement costing actions.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and advisor for risk management and trading strategies.  Educate internal stakeholders on risk management techniques and strategies.  If required, implement hedging transactions while adhering to trading and risk position policies.
  • Develop annual budgets for assigned categories/items.
  • Lead sourcing and productivity initiatives including timelines and deliverables to drive best value.  Effectively communicate status, work activities, and issues to leadership.
  • Initiate and support industrial sale opportunities for select edible oils.
  • Establish and implement Indirect Procurement reports, objectives, policies, and processes for each major category that are aligned to company and business unit goals and targets.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report Indirect Procurement results to internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Manage and develop team member(s).

Experience, Skills, Education:​

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in business-related discipline (i.e. business, economics, finance, accounting, supply chain).
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in procurement with a solid foundation in commodity, supplier, and risk management. 
  • Experience in the use of financial and derivative products to value and manage market price risk exposures arising from volatile commodity prices.
  • Excellent communication, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with an ERP system. Systems proficiency with JD Edwards is desired.
