Project Coordinator (Finance)
A central aim of the Cognitive Science Learning Laboratory is to understand how people learn and use their prior knowledge and experience to solve novel problems. Current projects focus on math (e.g., statistics) and science (e.g., physics) learning and transfer. Our research brings together interdisciplinary perspectives on motivation, metacognition, and cognition to understand student learning.
Research duties for this position include helping conduct laboratory and classroom studies, coding and scoring learning and problem-solving data, transcribing verbal protocols, basic data analysis in Excel and SPSS or STATA, and the design and implementation of online learning environments. Technical tasks related to the operation of a cognitive science laboratory include maintaining and operating laboratory equipment including computers, video, audio technologies; web maintenance; troubleshooting lab equipment; acting as a liaison to center-wide computer services department; acting as a trainer and support contact for undergraduate laboratory researchers for lab software and equipment.
Necessary qualifications: B.A. or B.S., course work in the behavioral or social sciences or education (e.g., psychology, computer science, anthropology, etc.). Prior experience in computerized behavioral and/or education research, ability to work effectively with computers, and to learn new applications preferred. Prior experience tutoring or teaching is also preferred. Experience with Qualtrics, Python, or web design is a plus.
A Bachelor's degree in the behavioral or social sciences or education (e.g., psychology, computer science, anthropology, etc.) is required to assure familiarity with standard psychology research procedures and knowledge of statistical methods and/or proficient computer skills; working in a Behavioral Science Laboratory is preferred. Prior experience in computerized behavioral and / or education research, ability to work effectively with computers, and to learn new applications preferred. Prior experience tutoring or teaching is also preferred.
