About Us
Zingermans Mail Order is the online and catalog shop for Zingermans. We ship great food and gifts all across America, everything from bread and cheese to cured ham and tinned fish.
The holidays atZingerman's Mail Order are crazy but fun. We grow from a crew of 50 to a swarm of nearly 500. People come to work here from all walks of life. Moms, dads, students, retirees, landscapers, dancers. Some people are in between jobs. Some people, this is their first job. Some folks come because they want to work with us for the long term. Some, it's just a little job for extra holiday money. Any reason is fine with us. Nearly everyone who works here now started as a part of a holiday crew at one time or another. We'd love for you to join us.
What kinds of things do you do in this job?
This job varies each and every day.
We talk to many guests each day over the phone.
We email with guests all day long.
We take orders over the phone with a smile.
We train new holiday staff.
We help our corporate clients each step of the way with their orders.
We do many tasks that ensure our customers are happy.
We work together as a team.
The Performance Expectations for this position are:
We wear headsets, answer phones and enter orders into computers like there's nothing else we'd rather be doing.
We send emails to our customers that are so good they feel like they were delivered in person.
We perform amazing feats of customer service by web, phone, fax, email, snail mail, and in person.
We work to deliver a great experience to each of our customers and to each other.
We knock our customers' socks off. Both socks. Every single time.
The Success Patterns for this position are:
Type 40 words per minute. (Testing will be required.)
Ease working with a computer and the internet and an ability to learn new software quickly (our order-taking software is something we build ourselves).
Know how to use Chrome, Google applications and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent spelling and grammar skills. (Testing will be required.)
Ability to read, speak and write fluently in English.
Previous experience in any form of customer service or sales, food sales is considered a bonus.
Experience in training.
Ability to compose comprehensive and caring emails quickly.
Dedicated to providing exceptional customer service.
Your availability must be at least 24-32 hours per week.
If hired, you must commit to 4 consecutive days of training.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Team player who will work effectively on a group and individually.
Have reliable transportation to and from work.
Must be punctual and have consistent attendance per the Mail Order attendance policy.

What and where is this job?
This is a job in our Service Center located at 720 Phoenix Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108. Our service center is open seven days a week and in December. It is where we answer the phone calls and emails from our customers. (We will also havejobs in our warehouse at the same address where we pick and pack boxes - holiday position will be posted soon.) Our building is just around the corner from theAATA bus route.
What does it take to get hired in our Service Center?
There are lots of things we are hoping to find in anyone who applies. (We've listed them below.) But there are four musts:
Youcan type at least 40 words per minute. It's not super fast, but it's not slow. We'll test you so if you need to practice go for it!
You know your way around a computer and the internet.
You can work at least one of these 8 shifts, the entire shift, at least 3 times per week:
Shift 1: 7am 3pm
Shift 2: 8am-Noon
Shift 3: 8am-4pm
Shift 4: 9am-5pm
Shift 5: 10am-6pm
Shift 6: Noon-8pm
Shift 7: 3pm-9pm
Shift 8: 4pm - 10pm
Shift 9: 5pm - 10pm
Shift 10: 6pm 2AM
Shift 11: 7pm-Midnight
4. You can commit to training 4 consecutive days
What is the pay?
$12 per hour.
Are there any other perks?
Absolutely: Free meals and snacks, all breaks are paid, 25% discount on anything you buy, daily food training (and eating!) and paid training.
Will I get full time work?
We aim to, but it depends. If you can work more shifts at different times of the day and week, there's a greater chance we can do so. If your schedule is more limited then it'll be harder to schedule you full time.
When does this job begin and end?
Work starts in November and ends on or around December 24, 2019.
Can I apply for full-time work after the job ends?
Yes! We'll have a limited number of full time positions at Mail Order and elsewhere in the Zingerman's Community of Businesses after the holiday.

What's the hiring process like?
We don't have a typical interview for our holiday crew. Instead we have tests for skills, like typing, along with a very brief interview. We also invite you to sit in and listen to someone taking care of real live customers so you can see (and hear) what it's like. We invite a group of applicants once or twice a week (that usually happens within days after you apply) and if you're hired you'll get your start date the same day you interview.
