Job Summary:
Design and develop Powertrain Components using established best practice principles. The components will be created using quality methodologies such as CAE, System Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Design Validation Plans (DVP&R).
Candidate will coordinate CAE, design, prototyping, and testing of components and the documentation of those activities. Resolve manufacturing plant, assembly plant, and field issues as necessary.
Participate in the team and subgroups in reviewing and updating corporate design best practices, conducting benchmarking exercises and reviewing and critiquing Corporate Designs.
Responsibilites:
The candidate will be responsible for all functional and manufacturing aspects for the valve cover assembly and PCV System.
The candidate will need to work with engine plant and supplier quality personnel to address manufacturing issues and quality issues, need to develop DVP&Rs to ensure that functional objectives are met for design changes and assure that the durability goals are met for these changes.
The candidate will need to participate in post-test reviews including failure analysis, and work closely with suppliers and manufacturing plants to ensure that design changes are robust and feasible for manufacturing.
The candidate will need to work with the global teams to resolve component issues in other regions as well as work with other Product Engineers with interfacing components and systems.
A successful candidate must be able to learn quickly, can comfortably interface with people at multiple levels of the corporation, can lead and provide clear direction to suppliers and design staff, and can work as part of a cross functional team.
Requirements
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
Working knowledge of automotive engines including components and their function
Preferred Requirements
3 – 5 years powertrain component design and release experience at an OEM or tier 1 supplier
DFSS certification
Knowledge of fastened joint design
Knowledge of sealing systems
Knowledge of manufacturing processes for plastic injection molding, rubber seals, and fasteners
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Knowledge of CAD systems and design softwares
Other Requirements
Good communication skills, presentation skills, technical report writing skills, and timeline creation and management skills are required
Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently
Ability to manage suppliers
Driving and Travel Requirements
Will be required to drive a company car. A valid driver's license is required as well as a clean driving record.
Will be required to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%
