Nursing Assistant - Per Diem: Inpatient Pharmacy (Finance)



The Riverside University Health System - Medical Center seeks a Per diem Nursing Assistants to support the Inpatient Pharmacy department.

As a Per Diem Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of medications from the pharmacy to the nursing units. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate medication temperature logs and monitoring medication expiration dates.

The Nursing Assistant is an entry level classification and typically reports to appropriate supervisory or management level nursing staff. Incumbents may be assigned to any outpatient clinic or inpatient nursing unit across the Riverside University Health System (RUHS) or within the Department of Public Health. Per diem personnel are distinguished from regular employees in that they receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits and work assignments are flexibly scheduled or on an on-call basis.

Examples of Essential Duties (may include but not limited to)

  • Retrieve medications from the pharmacy and deliver them to designated nursing units in a timely manner. (assigned courier)
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures during medication transport to ensure the integrity of the medications.
  • Monitor and record medication temperatures according to established guidelines, promptly reporting any deviations.
  • Conduct regular checks of medication expiration dates and organize shelves to maintain a well-organized and efficient inventory.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy staff to maintain accurate records of medication deliveries, temperature logs, and inventory levels.
  • Assist nursing staff with medication-related tasks as needed, under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
  • Follow HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Supervisor or designated supervisor.

Under supervision, assists professional nursing personnel or other professional healthcare providers in providing basic patient care and treatment in a per diem employment capacity; observes patients via video monitoring equipment from a remote location; performs nonprofessional nursing duties in the care of physically and mentally ill patients; performs other related duties as required. Meet the Team!
Riverside University Health System• Provide basic bedside nursing care to assure comfort and cleanliness of patients; take and record temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; bathe, shave, feed, and dress patients, and assist those capable of self-care.

• Collect, test and record results of routine specimen examinations; give patients bedpans, remove and clean them, and record intake and output of patients.

• May assist in the administration of such treatments as suctions, soaks and enemas; give and empty sitz baths; assist doctors or professional healthcare providers with IV's, pelvic exams, spinal taps, or other medical procedures.

• Assist patients in getting into and out of bed and wheelchairs; lift or assist in lifting, restraining, and positioning patients; may set up fracture equipment and assist doctors in applying casts and braces.

• Clean and sterilize instruments, dressings, supplies, and utensils; transport patients to and from units.
• Maintain renal dialysis equipment; prepare and transport bodies to morgue; may clean restrooms; set up oral hygiene trays.

• Observe and report unusual behavior of patients to supervisor; may accompany and attend mental patients in therapy sessions, court appearances, or daily living routines, including social and recreational activities.

• May provide patient transportation in the absence of Medical Transportation Technician; assist in admission and discharge of patients from unit; go on ambulance runs as necessary.Minimum Requirements:
Education: Successful completion of the education required by the State of California to obtain the necessary valid license/certifications as indicated below.
License/Certifications (Must possess one of the following):

  • Valid Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) issued by the State of California
  • Valid Paramedic license issued by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority
  • Valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification approved by the State of California
  • Other Requirements:

    Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

    Temporary Assignment Program (TAP): Current and valid Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) issued by the State of California, Paramedic license issued by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority or current and valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification approved by the State of California is required. Current CNA Certification, Paramedic license or EMT Certification must be maintained while in TAP/Per Diem employment.
    Knowledge of: The principles, methods and techniques of basic patient care and safety; patient vital signs, basic medical terminology; safe patient handling techniques, including lifting, positioning and transfer methods.

    Ability to: Read, write and speak the English language; learn the principles, methods and procedures of basic patient care; learn hospital and/or clinic routines and techniques; perform bedside nursing care in an understanding and sympathetic manner; follow oral and written directions; keep simple records; apply proper body mechanics in lifting and moving patients.For questions regarding this recruitment please contact the recruiter, Diana Salazar Gomez at disgomez@rivco.org Apply
