The Sports Coordinator, working as part of the Sports Team, will deliver professional customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming and safe environment at the YMCA by upholding the YMCA sports rules and philosophies. They will possess a number of technical skills and knowledge in a wide range of sport activities, providing legendary customer service by executing all programs within the framework of each sport model and the YMCA mission. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Facilitate the organization, management and operation of quality sports programs that follow the YMCA sport models and pillars of YMCA sports.
2. Grow sport programs through quality programming, marketing and cross selling of programs, and create new innovative programs and services that meet the community needs.
3. Direct, delegate, motivate, mentor and supervise facility supervisors, officials, gym supervisors and scorekeepers to achieve department and program goals.
4. Build relationships (along with Sports Director) with school districts, park and recreation administrators and other any other representatives to expand the YMCA programming and quality of programs to all youth in the service area.
5. Follow and enforce all YMCA procedures and policies, including: YMCA sport models and sport specific rules, personnel guidelines, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and membership policies. Carry out emergency plans as necessary.
6. Maintain a clean and safe playing environment. Take initiative to clean up/repair areas, do proper work orders or notify necessary persons to correct any problems.
7. When needed or necessary the sport coordinator may also be responsible for specific sport facilities and will be the primary supervisor for the site (encompassing all the duties of a facility supervisor).
8. Recruit, train and teach all volunteer coaches in the YMCA philosophy and coaching techniques. Obtain correct and complete volunteer applications and contact volunteer references. Evaluate new coaches at least once during the season and provide them with feedback.
9. With the Sports Director, meet department revenues and net income budget, control expenses and continue to grow programs.
10. Be dressed in appropriate attire and wear nametag at all times.
11. Attend and remain current on all mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
12. Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA Support Campaign.
13. Any other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for supervising all part-time sports staff and seasonal volunteer coaches to make sure they are following the YMCA sports models, YMCA philosophy and mission.
2. Responsible for following and enforcing all Association procedures and guidelines and compliance with governmental regulations regarding staff management (evaluations, disciplinary actions, time sheets, hiring process, etc.)
