Finance Specialist - Cornell Tech (Finance)

Responsible for monitoring, updating, analyzing, and forecasting capital projects for Cornell Tech. Prepares and analyzes financial reports summarizing status of all aspects of capital project including budgets, P&Ls, and cash flow. Ensures quality control of financial data. Synthesizes and summarizes large amounts of financial data. Identifies trends including potential overages or available funding. Coordinates and collaborates with Cornell Tech capital project team and other units in Cornell Ithaca to gather and communicate financial information. Prepares information for presentation to various Cornell boards and other governing bodies. Coordinates with external partners including third party developers, city government/ agencies, and other constituents as needed. Manages information flow and collection, and prepare documents for reimbursement from city or other organizations as needed. Provides financial analysis support for operational forecasting and modelling.
In addition to strong finance, analytical, and accounting skills, previous experience in financial planning is required, and experience in financial management especially for large scale, complex capital projects is preferred. Strong analytical skills and detail oriented. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and multi-task in a high-paced team environment and meet deadlines. Requires the ability to work independently and take initiative. Attention to detail, verbal/ written communication skills, positive demeanor with interpersonal skills are necessary.
This is term appointment ending February 28, 2020.
Required Qualifications:
• Associate's degree in accounting, finance or business with a finance focus; at least 2 years of experience (3 years' experience strongly preferred) in financial planning/ management and budget development, analysis and reporting, financial management. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
• Exceptional candidates with degree in another field and applicable professional work experience in accounting, finance, business, or research administration may be considered.
• Ability to independently plan and prioritize responsibilities to meet competing deadlines while working under pressure.
• Strong analytical skills and detail oriented. Demonstrated experience utilizing spreadsheets and databases.
• Must have excellent MS Excel skills and the ability to develop and present accurate and easy to read spreadsheets and reports.
• Positive demeanor with interpersonal skills are necessary. Superior customer service and communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and concisely in verbal and written formats to a wide variety of constituents. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and multi-task in a high-paced team environment and meet deadlines. Requires the ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Ability to negotiate and advocate effectively and tactfully. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain confidentiality and discretion.
• Experience in capital projects financial management and analysis; able to research, analyze, interpret and report on financial findings related to large, complex construction/ capital development projects.
• Experience in higher education or academic setting along with demonstrated working knowledge of construction terms and operations a plus. Experience working with capital project financial management for projects in NYC and/or challenging urban sites would be ideal.
