Cultural Resource Specialist (Education)

HORNE's Government Services focus area is searching for an SOI-qualified archaeologist or architectural historian to assist in implementing programs related to disaster recovery, specifically for the Section 106 component of Environmental reviews and evaluations for funding granted by HUD CDBG. The position is responsible for assisting the Senior Architectural Historian on multiple projects simultaneously.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Architectural Historian with HUD Section 106 environmental reviews as it pertains to archaeology and architectural history.
  • Assist with the coordination with State SHPO and Tribes for Section 106 compliance.
  • Assist with documenting and assessing internal controls for state and local governmental entities.
  • Assist with developing proper procedures for HUD CDBG NEPA environmental reviews for various state agencies.
  • Communicate progress of projects, problems, and resolutions to the Senior Architectural Historian and team.
  • Research and identify complex program issues or problems.
  • Make recommendations for and coordinate resolutions and improvements.
  • Work in a team environment that implements strategies, processes, and solutions.
  • Support the project team with National Environmental Policy Act environmental reviews for HUD Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery projects.
  • Communicate the progress of tasks, problems, and resolutions to team members.
  • Research and identify project issues or problems.

Education:

  • Master's degree in cultural resources or a related field (Archaeology, Architectural History, or History).
  • The ideal candidate will possess a master's degree in Archaeology with familiarity regarding architectural history or a master's degree in Architectural History/History with familiarity regarding archaeology.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must pay excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and workflows.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of ESRI software (i.e. ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, etc).
