Language Center Manager, HCPC (Finance)
Coordinates and manages the day-to-day operations of the Language Center at HCPC. Responsible for the translation needs of patients, physicians, clinicians, social workers and nursing staff to ensure quality patient care.

Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Provides direction, organization, and supervision to the Language Center and the interpreting/translating staff.
2. Interacts with patients whose primary language is not English to access their interpretation/translation needs. Seeks out patient care plans related to interpretations/translations.
3. Receives all requests for translations and interpretations services and works out a daily schedule based on patient needs. Ensures adequate resources are available to provide appropriate services including internal interpreters/translators (including those in the language competency program), external translators, video-remote and telephonic interpretation services.
4. Audits the translations of the discharge summaries to ensure that the language therein complies with all the grammatical and lexical rules, and to ensure that the translated message is faithful and adheres to the content of the original text.
5. Manages the telephonic and video-remote interpretation services. Works with Management Information Systems to ensure that the video-remote interpretation services are available when needed and to prevent any disruption in the services due to equipment or network malfunction.
6. Schedules all interpretation services provided by the external agencies as needed and keeps a detailed log of the services requested. Monitors usage and redirects needs to internal interpreters as much as possible to curtail expenses of the external interpretation agencies.
7. Audits the external interpretation agencies to ensure that they are regularly assessing the competencies of their interpreters and they meet the standards of HCPC; advises on the termination of a contract when the stipulated standards are not met.
8. Ensures that the invoices from the external interpretation agencies are correct, detecting overcharges and other billing errors by comparing the service log and the invoices to identify the type of problems.
9. Works with Procurement to manage the contracts with the interpretation service providers. Ensures that the language of the contracts protects HCPC's best interest and proposes changes when problems are identified.
10. Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, maintenance of competencies, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
11. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency specifications to meet federal, state and local standards.
12. Interacts with the management team to discuss changes in the Translation and Interpretation field, informing them of new technologies and methods to offer interpretation services in a more cost-effective and time-efficient way.
13. Meets with new residents or other staff members as needed to educate them on available interpretation services and the appropriate procedures for requesting an interpreter.
14. Other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
May be required to pass a comprehensive translation test administered by an external agency for HCPC
Certification in Interpreting from the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters OR
Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters preferred
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in related field or experience in lieu of degree.
Minimum Experience:
Three (3) years related experience including previous management experience.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
