Development Associate (Biotech)



New England Biolabs (NEB) is seeking a Development Associate to work with an experienced scientific staff on development projects involving production of oligonucleotides.  The individual in this position will also assume responsibilities associated with the production of a diverse line of products.  This position is located in our Beverly, MA facility.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assume product management responsibilities for several products and/ or kit components in support of catalog sales.
  • Routine synthesis and purification of DNA and RNA oligonucleotides, including synthesis of DNA utilizing a multi 96/384 plate format.
  • Purification of oligonucleotides and nucleoside triphosphates utilizing methods such as SPE, PAGE, HPLC, FC and FPLC.
  • Quantify oligonucleotides for the generation of libraries using liquid handling systems.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of working protocols, vialing records, and substrate inventory, using tracking software, and LIMS where appropriate.
  • Assist with the production of existing affinity chromatography-based products along with development of novel derivatized solid-phase supports.
  • Assist in the development of products and processes supporting NGS technologies.

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

  • B.A/B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the life science industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under conditions necessary for ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 compliance.
  • Good hands at the bench and an ability to perform careful and consistent synthesis runs and experimental procedures.
  • Maintain a strong work ethic, emphasizing both efficiency and quality of work.
  • Able to manage timelines productively and bring projects to completion.
  • Be capable of self-management within a team framework.
  • Demonstrate significant skills in production while adhering to safe laboratory practices and environmental safeguards

Preferred Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Working knowledge of phosphoramidite chemistry and experience with high-throughput DNA synthesis platforms desired.
  • Familiarity with LIMS as applied to oligo synthesis and NGS is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Agilent Technologies1200 series HPLC systems and available column technology along with the Agilent 6120 single-quad LCMS (or equivalent) is beneficial.
  • Experience with liquid handling systems and purification of oligos in plate format desired.
