Product Specialist (Biotech)

The Product Specialist will support their assigned discipline(s)/products by managing complex projects and preparing projects for production, interacting with authors, and performing administrative tasks as needed. They will also serve as a resource for their Product team as a whole by coordinating with other departments, facilitating editorial training opportunities for both new hires and current employees, handling inter- and intra-departmental communication, all as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and develop print and digital projects and launch them to the Production team.
• Provide Product assistance as needed for colleagues in Production, Rights & Media, Marketing, and Sales departments.
• Work with senior colleagues to solicit, organize, and compile feedback from market reviews including proposal, revision, and draft chapter reviews. Develop questionnaires and provide in-depth market analysis as needed.
• Serve as main point of contact for authors regarding day-to-day issues and also provide direction regarding product development. Provide guidance to ensure appropriate quality of product. As needed, will coordinate with partner organizations.
• Perform administrative tasks as needed including database management, invoice processing, formatting documents, and providing status updates for team members.
• Communicate effectively with authors as well as other members of the editorial, production, marketing, sales, and technology teams.
• Contribute to upper-level strategic discussions and provide awareness of market trends and competitive information.
• When appropriate, under direct management of supervising editor, achieve new signing and revision goals supporting the strategic goals of assigned list.
Job Specifications:
Education & Experience-
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years work experience in publishing (academic preferred) or related editorial/product position.
Skills & Abilities-
• Computer literacy, familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and email.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills required.
• Critical attributes to include enthusiasm, self-motivation, professionalism, task and detail orientation, high level of organization, and ability to influence others.
• Ability to track multiple projects simultaneously and provide clear and consistent status reports to key stakeholders.
• Ability to work with and meet high-stakes deadlines.
• Ability to manage projects with minimal to no supervision.
