Position Title: Buyer

Reports To: Procurement Manager

Position Summary:

Federal Equipment Company has been a leading supplier for marine deck machinery and specialized weapons and material handling systems. Through the years the company has emerged into an internationally recognized organization with extensive expertise in marine design/engineering and manufacturing of critical shipboard systems. The company, now part of Fairbanks Morse Defense, is rapidly growing and in need of a Buyer. This position strengthens existing procurement processes, builds relationships with key vendors, and negotiates terms. Supports planning acquisition of goods and services to achieve organizational quality, delivery, and price objectives. Monitors and manages supplier on-time delivery.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Determine purchasing requirements for goods and services from engineering bills of material, requisitions, verbal requests, and estimates for new jobs
  • Identify and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery speed
  • Serve as the primary contact to all Maxim vendors
  • Obtain competitive quotes from vendors
  • Work with vendors to achieve improved pricing, delivery, quality, and adherence to standard terms
  • Prepare project purchasing schedule based on component lead times and in-house need dates
  • Prepare, enter, and issue purchased orders for raw materials, components, and supplies needed for production
  • Identify and onboard new vendors
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment of materials
  • Assist in monitoring and managing vendor delivery with internal and external contacts
  • Maintain equipment and parts list; update pricing and lead time based on vendor quotes
  • Maintain master vendor list, including vendor approval status
  • Complete all work in an efficient and timely manner
  • Craft purchase order and inventory reports for management
  • Maintain constant communication with the Procurement Manager and other Program Managers to update lead time and other status of purchased items
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements:

  • College degree or equivalent experience. CPM, CPSM, or related certification is a plus
  • 2-5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent analytical and financial skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Preferred DFARS/FAR knowledge or basic understanding
  • Knowledge of market research, data analysis, and purchasing best practices
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Works well in a fast-faced environment with minimal day-to-day supervision
  • Working experience in an ERP system, preferably Infor Visual
  • Highly skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Able to comprehend blueprints and drawings
  • Able to negotiate terms and pricing with suppliers
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced, growth environment.
  • Proven ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with experience and willingness to jump in and help even when it is not their primary role and responsibility.

Note: This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data.
