Association Resource Educator - Nutrition and Local Foods - Newark, NY (Finance)
The Nutrition and Local Foods (NLF) Resource Educator is the lead team member in developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programming provided to the community through the nutrition, farm to school, and consumer sciences program areas. This position will be responsible for identifying and assessing program needs; developing program goals and objectives; and planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programming provided to the community. S/he will work with the Executive Director and community stakeholders to determine program priorities for Wayne County. S/he will work as an Association team member in addressing local NLF programming goals. This position will be responsible for writing, submitting, leading, overseeing, and managing multiple grants, including preparation and submission of vouchers, budget modifications, and required funder reports. S/he may oversee multiple community advisory committees.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's Degree in Nutrition or related discipline
• Experience relevant to the role of the position
• Experience with grant writing, management, implementation, and evaluation
• Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position
• Ability to meet acceptable background check standards
• Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as necessary
• Previous supervisory and grant management experience
• Excellent oral and written skills
• Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools/methods and electronic technology (i.e., video conferencing)
• Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with Advisory Committees, community stakeholders, and funding partners
• Ability to identify and secure funding that supports programs
• Ability to plan, organize, implement, teach, and evaluate informal and formal educational programs
• Ability to understand, interpret, and apply research
• Ability to identify and make use of program resources within the community and to establish a leadership role
• Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three years of supervisory and grant management experience preferred
• Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Assessment 15%
• Develop methodology to assess the nutrition, farm to school, and consumer sciences programs
• Develop needs assessments for the nutrition, farm to school, and consumer sciences programs
• Identify program and strategic needs of the Association
• Ensure program assessment is aligned with the statewide and Association Plan of Work
• Use subject matter knowledge to conduct needs assessments and analyze program needs
• Identify program gaps and emerging needs
• Make recommendations for programmatic offerings, enhancements, or improvements
Program Development 20%
• Applying subject matter knowledge, develop educational strategies to meet identified needs, objectives, and goals
• Develop educational programs, materials, and activities to meet identified needs and to carry out NLF program priorities and goals
• Research, identify, and select appropriate educational and community resources
• Create innovative educational programs to meet the changing local needs
• Structure NLF (Nutrition and Local Foods) programs to meet the need of diverse program participants and meet changing local, regional, and/or statewide issues
• Select and adapt NLF curriculum from approved CCE (Cornell Cooperative Extension) sources to create curricula
• Apply in-depth knowledge to create curriculum as needed
• Identify activities and program resources required for implementation of new programs and initiatives
• Make programmatic changes based on program evaluation outcomes
• Utilize Advisory Committees to ensure that stakeholders are engaged in the program development process
• Ensure program development is within the scope of the statewide and Association Plan of Work
• Consider diverse audiences while planning NLF educational programs
Program Delivery 20%
• Acceptance of programs, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs
• Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, Association publications, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver programs
• Provide NLF educational program efforts via mass media including contributing articles to the Association publications, Association social media accounts, and website postings
• Serve as subject matter expert to staff, clientele, and other groups as they are identified
• Maintain linkages with Cornell University subject matter specialists for NLF program delivery guidance
• Interact with program participants, representing CCE in a professional manner at all times
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Cornell University faculty and administration, appropriate County departments, elected officials, local community leaders and organizations, keeping these individuals and groups informed of CCE's goals, efforts, and impacts of programs provided to the residents of Wayne County
• Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell University, or other organizations in a professional manner as part of program delivery
• Ensure program delivery is within the scope of the statewide and Association Plan of Work
Program Evaluation 10%
• Develop program evaluation framework and tools based on subject matter knowledge
• Apply subject matter knowledge to evaluate NLF educational programs
• Collect evaluation and program needs assessment data from NLF program participants based on existing framework.
• Interact with program participants, Association staff, Advisory Committees, county and community leaders, and other key stakeholders to obtain their evaluation for NLF program improvements
• Analyze and evaluate collected NLF program evaluation data
• Communicate evaluation results and findings
• Recommend changes to strengthen and improve NLF programs
• Ensure program evaluation is within the scope of the statewide and Association Plan of Work
Applied Research 5%
• Communicate social and economic changes to Cornell University subject matter specialists that may be studied and/or acted upon
• Ensure applied research is within scope of the statewide and Association Plan of Work
• Assist in conducting applied research in conjunction with the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research as outlined in CCE program definition and standards
• Assist in the collaboration with Cornell University subject matter specialists to design or create applied research collection framework
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Direction 10%
• Develop educational strategies to meet the needs of community agencies and participants in nutrition, farm to school, farmers' market programming and other local foods initiatives.
• Seek opportunities for program engagement with Cornell University and CCE statewide programs
• Provide input to the Executive Director in the planning of a NLF department budget
• Provide complex administrative tasks to support the planning of NLF educational programs by interpreting Association, CCE, and Cornell program direction
• Plan strategic marketing communications for NLF programs
• Initiate and develop grant or other funding proposals in order to secure ongoing or new funding to support and enhance NLF educational program offerings
• Assist with planning effective external and internal program communication/marketing efforts for NLF programs
• Assist in developing and/or enhancing/expanding relationships with appropriate agencies, organizations, industries, and community leaders for NLF programs
• May assist in the design of a system of ongoing involvement of citizens which expresses the demographics of the community
Administrative Management 10%
• Assist supervisor in administrative and program management activities, as assigned
• Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within NLF programs, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures
• Monitor NLF programs to ensure that educational content conforms to research base, policies and objectives of the Association, and is research knowledge-based
• Oversee the management of educational strategies to meet the needs of the identified objectives of NLF programs
• Supervise NLF temporary summer educators, staff, seeking guidance and support from the Executive Director as necessary
• Effectively manage and allocate financial resources to accomplish NLF program objectives
• Assist with identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources within the Association
• Monitor the program operating income and expenses to ensure NLF programs are within budget
• Identify and manage operating variances seeking guidance from the Executive Director as needed
• Guide the implementation of communication strategies that relate to NLF programs
Administrative Coordination/Operation 5%
• Provide administrative support for program design and for the implementation of the assessment, development, delivery, research, and evaluation of established NLF educational program goals
• Maintain and prepare teaching materials necessary for NLF programs, applying existing subject matter knowledge
• Assist in coordinating NLF program implementation, planning, and activities efforts
• Represent NLF programs and the Association at community functions and meetings or as requested
• Identify financial resources required for implementation of new programs and initiatives
• Prepare and submit appropriate grant or other funding proposals, including financial documentation that may be required
• Complete reports on a timely basis
• Maintain communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as newsletters, e-mails, electronic technology, internet, social media, website postings, and content
• Coordinate marketing and promotion of NLF programs through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational, and other organizations
• Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on NLF program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board of Directors, and others as necessary
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned 5%
• In cooperation with Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and Association priorities.
• Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
