Veteran Services Van Driver (Project Management)
Knows and fully understands the Steele County Veteran's Service Office (SCVSO) transportation program's plans and policies.
Provide a courteous, safe, and timely mode of transportation for appointments to and from the VA Medical Center (VAMC).
Assist veterans as needed: Getting in and out of the van, while transporting them to their appointments, AND while at VAMC for their appointments.
Expectations:
Provide a "no pressure" environment for veterans. No veteran or their escort should ever feel pressured to be done early, get into any appointment ahead of schedule, or skip or cancel any late afternoon appointment.
Communicate clearly with the veterans under his/her control as to where to meet at the VAMC for their return trip back. Informs passengers of possible delays and never places the blame for any delays on any passenger.
Communicates with the County Veteran's Service Officer (CVSO) office about number of passengers riding each way, add-ons, and no shows.
Remain fully qualified (physicals, driver's license).
Properly care for and maintain the SCVSO transportation van.
Understand that during his/her appointed day to drive, the patients being transported are his/her one and only priority during that day.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Required to pass a federal background check
Valid Driver's License
Other training and certifications may be required after hire
Essential Skills
Ability to deal effectively with adverse persons and situations.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Physical Job Requirements (Percentage of Time)
The primary responsibilities for this position will be performed primarily in a motor vehicle. Will have infrequent exposure to health hazards and accidents; requires a low level of physical effort.

Working Conditions
The driver, after consulting with the CVSO, may determine when a safety hazard is imminent, and cancel the trip. Rain, snow, ice, and wind will be considering factors in doing a risk assessment before each scheduled trip.
